A classic musical, Gypsy follows Momma Rose as vaudeville declines in the early twentieth century. A constant dreamer and an unbearable stage mom, Rose looks to push her daughter June into the spotlight at any cost — even if it means isolating the less talented sister Louise. Traveling the country and picking up boys for acts, and a love interest, Herbie, Rose stops at nothing to succeed.
It has its consequences: fed up by her mother’s indomitable force, June leaves the act, and her family. Stuck with Louise, Rose is convinced she can make the other sister a star, and somehow she does: Louise becomes Gypsy Rose Lee, one of the burlesque scene’s most famous strippers. Even that, however, does not satisfy Rose, who becomes secondary as Louise’s career ascends. Left alone, Rose, a role embodied by some of Broadway’s most acclaimed actresses, must come to terms with her own lack of self-love.
Gypsy is at New York's Majestic Theatre , which is located at 245 West 44th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue), New York, 10036.

Get Gypsy tickets and see Audra McDonald return to Broadway in one of its most iconic roles. See the musical Gypsy on Broadway, starting this fall.
Gypsy features some classic songs including “Small World", "Together (Wherever We Go)", and "You Gotta Get a Gimmick.” The score is reminiscent of old Broadway with its big overture and brassy instrumentation.
The show brings together a trifecta of Broadway legends. Jule Styne (Funny Girl) and Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd) wrote the music and lyrics, respectively. Arthur Laurents (West Side Story) wrote the book.
George C. Wolf, who won a Tony Award in 1993 for directing Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, directs this revival.
An age recommendation has yet to be finalized, but all Broadway audiences regardless of show must be four and over.
Reviews are not out yet, but with a starry performer like Audra McDonald and a story like Gypsy’s, audiences have been ecstatic about this new production. It is certainly one for the books.
