Hugo Marchand | Artists at the Center

Hugo Marchand, the Paris Opera Ballet's most famous male étoile, curates and headlines City Center's fifth Artists at the Center. The centerpiece is Maurice Béjart's Boléro, an athletic solo set to Ravel and surrounded by 18 dancers from Béjart Ballet Lausanne, a work few dancers are ever permitted to perform. He also partners étoile Dorothée Gilbert in a pas de deux from Preljocaj's Le Parc, in a program built for people who take ballet seriously.

New Victory Dance: Program B

The second of New Victory's kid-focused dance programs pairs three NYC companies: Ballet Hispánico's BH2, Trisha Brown Dance Company, and Umami Playground Dance Inc. The excerpts range from a piece blending ballet with African and Dunham technique to Trisha Brown's study of how movement passes between dancers. Teaching artists host, and a choreographer talk-back invites kids to dance from their seats. Ages 8 and up.

New Victory Dance: Program C

New Victory Dance is the city's summer dance sampler built for kids: three acclaimed NYC companies per program, introduced by New Victory teaching artists. This program pairs Michael Mao Dance, Gibney Company, and EMERGE125, spanning contemporary work rooted in Southeast Asian memory, South African tradition, and Indigenous electronic beats. It closes with a choreographer talk-back where kids get to dance from their seats.
