The Buena Vista Social Club musical is named for the title band and their eponymous 1997 album that won a Grammy Award the next year. The band, formed to bring back Cuba’s golden age of music from the 1940s and 1950s, brought many musicians out of retirement to engage an aging population that knew the legends and had the expertise to expose a new generation to son, guajira, and other exciting genres.

Buena Vista Social Club was active for two decades, up until 2015. Now this musical honors the group's legacy and gives us a beat we can all groove to.

Saheem Ali, a Tony nominee for Fat Ham, directs this new musical, and the bookwriter is Marco Ramirez (Drama Desk Award, The Royale). David Yazbek, who won a Tony Award for The Band’s Visit, returns to the Atlantic as music producer. Dancing into New York, Buena Vista Social Club off Broadway furthers a long line of bold and imaginative Atlantic Theater Company productions.
