In *Damn Yankees*, Joe Boyd is middle-aged at home with his cherished wife Meg, hoping to see his beloved Baltimore Orioles win the World Series. He's a die-hard fan looking for his team to regain their glory, and unlike the original production of *Damn Yankees*, this one takes place in the early 2000s. The timeless tale remains in story and structure, however, as soon Joe meets a charming stranger and his captivating accomplice with a deal that's too good to refuse.

Soon, Joe is returned to his youth and is a new player on the scene who can lead his Orioles to victory. However, there's always a catch. How far would you go to have one wish fulfilled?

*Damn Yankees* is a musical full of lovable characters, iconic songs, and show-stopping choreography. The play has been updated for today with fresh stars and additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, known for her work on *Ragtime* and *Once On This Island*.

## What to watch for
- The score features songs by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (music and lyrics).
- Neil Patrick Harris is a TV star but also theatre icon, known for his roles in *Company, Into the Woods*, and more.
- Julianne Hough is best known for her Emmy Award-winning work on ABC's *Dancing with the Stars*.

Get *Damn Yankees* tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see Neil Patrick Harris, Julianne Hough, and Austin Scott star in this brilliant musical comedy. *Damn Yankees* the musical returns to Broadway in an updated production that sets the story in the early 2000s, where die-hard Baltimore Orioles fan Joe is given a chance to see his team finally succeed — but, there's a catch. Don't miss out on the musical with show-stopping songs like "Shoeless Joe," "Whatever Lola Wants," "Heart," and others.

Experience *Damn Yankees* on Broadway to see a star-studded cast give life to this classic musical, now directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. "*Damn Yankees* has always been one of our great American musicals, but I wasn't interested in simply reviving it," he said in a statement. "This ‘revisal’ preserves the heart, wit and soaring score that audiences love and is a real opportunity to bring joy back into the theater. Let's play ball!"

In a first for a Broadway musical, Major League Baseball (MLB) and its Emmy Award-winning production label MLB Studios will serve as a partner on the production. This production comes to New York City following its sold-out engagement at Arena Stage, with The Washington Post declaring, “*Damn Yankees* knocks it out of the park,” and calling the production “a winning reinvention of a classic — damn-near-perfect.”

Lead producer Haley Swindal said in a statement, “Baseball is mythology. Broadway is mythology. They both deliver thrilling, unrepeatable live entertainment to millions of fans each year. Bringing them together — with MLB at the table and this extraordinary creative team — isn’t just a revival. It’s a collision of American icons.”

*Damn Yankees* debuted on Broadway in 1955, and it went on to seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Tickets to Damn Yankees in New York will be available here soon.

A modern comedy, *Art* follows three friends whose friendship is tested when one of them, Serge (Neil Patrick Harris), buys an expensive painting that Marc (Bobby Cannavale) can't stand. Their third friend, Yvan (James Corden), is stuck in the middle, seeing each friend's point of view. The original Broadway production had a similarly A-list cast when it first ran in New York in 1998 — that original production starred Alan Alda, Victor Garber, and Alfred Molina, who received a Tony Award nomination for his performance.

“Ever since I first saw the original production, it has been etched into my mind as a hysterical and moving portrayal of friendship, compromise, and the power of art to change perspectives," producer Michael Shulman said in a statement.

With lots of laughs and deliberations on art, Yasmina Reza's play asks how much will you give for a painting, and how much will you give for your friends?

## What to watch for
- Scott Ellis is one of theatre's most Tony-nominated directors, with nominations for revivals that include *She Loves Me, You Can't Take it With You*, and more.
- Bobby Cannavale won an Emmy for his work on *Will & Grace*, and was last seen on stage in *Here We Are*, the final musical written by the late Stephen Sondheim.
- For this show, James Corden returns to Broadway for the first time in 13 years; he won a Tony for *One Man, Two Guvnors* in 2012.
- Neil Patrick Harris won a Tony Award for *Hedwig and the Angry Inch* and also has five Emmys.

## Additional Ticket Information

Children under 5 are not permitted in the theatre.

No weapons permitted on the premises. No outside food or beverages, electric scooters, e-bikes, or battery-powered transportation devices, except when medically necessary.

All items are subject to inspection. Anything brought into the theatre must fit on your lap or completely under your seat without blocking any aisles. Avoid bringing packages, luggage, and backpacks. Some items must be checked.

The use of cameras, cell phones, and other recording devices during the show is strictly prohibited by law, except when used for accessibility services.

Art on Broadway - NYC - TodayTix

A comedy about friendship and, yes, art, this Tony Award winner for Best Play follows three best buds who debate the value of one's recent purchase: a very, very expensive painting...of nothing at all.

See Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris star in this Tony Award-winning comedy. *Art* plays at the Music Box Theatre starting this August for a strictly limited run. This marks the first revival of the hit play by Yasmina Reza (*God of Carnage*), and Tony nominee Scott Ellis ([*Pirates! The Penzance Musical*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/38596-the-pirates-of-penzance-on-broadway)) directs.

*Art* on Broadway follows three friends, Serge, Marc and Yvan. Serge (Harris) buys an expensive painting — an all-white painting with even fainter white lines. Marc (Cannavale) can't stand the "painting," which leaves Yvan (Cordon) stuck in the middle. Intelligent debates about art, and silly ones about friendship, ensue, leaving the friends more confused than they were before the purchase.

“Ever since I first saw the original production, it has been etched into my mind as a hysterical and moving portrayal of friendship, compromise, and the power of art to change perspectives," producer Michael Shulman said in a statement.

That original Broadway production had a similarly star-studded cast in 1998: Alan Alda, Victor Garber, and Alfred Molina, who was Tony-nominated for his performance. Now, after taking home the Tony Award for Best Play, the play returns to Broadway.

It also marks Corden's return to Broadway for the first time in 13 years after winning a Tony Award for *One Man, Two Guvnors*. Harris is also a Broadway alum, winning a Tony Award for *Hedwig and the Angry Inch* (plus multiple Emmys for hosting the Tonys). Emmy winner Cannavale was last seen on stage in *Here We Are*, the final musical written by the late Stephen Sondheim. Together with multi-Tony nominee Ellis directing, this play promises to be hilarious with expert performances.

Music Box Theatre

The Music Box Theatre was built in 1921 by theatrical producer Sam H. Harris to house Irving Berlin's musical revue *The Music Box*, written specifically for the venue. The first play to go up at the venue was 1925's *Cradle Snatchers*, and, ironically, the theatre has historically hosted more straight plays than musicals.

The Shubert Organization began acquiring shares in the Music Box Theatre from Harris in the 1920s. When Harris died in 1941, his wife sold half the shares in the theatre to the Shuberts, and half to Berlin.

In 2007, the Shubert Organization became the sole owners of the theatre. The Music Box Theatre's facade and interior are New York City landmarks.

Robert O’Hara is a Lambda Literary Award nominee for *Bootycandy*, an Obie Award winner for *In the Continuum*, and a Tony Award nominee for directing *Slave Play* on Broadway. An acclaimed writer and director, Robert O’Hara is well-known to New York audiences thanks to his satirical writing on race relations in America and bawdy and spiky wit.

That humor is in full force in his newest play, coming off Broadway to MCC this fall for a limited run only. A world premiere, *Shit. Meet. Fan*. follows a friend group over a boozy night and throughout a volatile game: every text, every email, and every call must be shared aloud.

A night for innocent fun and games is particularly pitched as the friends have gathered on the eclipse: souls will be bared and skeletons will come out of the closet as evening rolls in. But it’s all in the spirit of a good time with friends, right? Let the games begin.

## What to watch for

- Robert O’Hara returns to MCC after directing there before, for *BLKS* by Aziza Barnes, which was a New York Times Critics Pick.
- MCC is known for its presentation of adventurous new plays and musicals. Located in Manhattan, the off-Broadway theatre is a popular incubator for new works and has featured celebs on stage, including Lucas Hedges in *Yen* and Greta Gerwig in *The Village Bike*.
- O’Hara began his career studying under famed director George C. Wolfe, who also has a big production this year: *[Gypsy](https://www.todaytix.com/nyc/shows/41161-gypsy-on-broadway)* starring Audra McDonald.
- Critics enjoy O’Hara’s ability to blend genres and keep audiences on their toes. In its review of *Bootycandy*, The New York Times wrote that O’Hara’s writing is “as raw in its language and raucous in spirit as it is smart and provocative.”

Fan*. tickets on New York Theatre Guide now.

You trust your friends, right? Experience *Shit. Meet. Fan*. off Broadway to see just how trusting one particular friend group is. In this world premiere comedy from the writer behind uproarious hits including *Bootycandy* and *Barbecue*, one friend group makes the rules of tonight's game very clear: get out your phone, turn up the volume, and face the screen to where everyone can see. Every text, every call, and every email notification, appropriate or not, must be shared aloud. Sounds fun? We’ll see: what starts out as a curious and fun game transforms into something much more revelatory in this satirical, blazing new play.

Gathering on the night of the eclipse, something dark is afoot as the game evolves into a full-out, high-octane, laugh-your-butt-off black comedy about contemporary relationships to our phones, our friends, and ourselves. Beware as old secrets come to light and skeletons emerge as a friend group goes off the rails. But what else would you expect from grownups who refuse to grow up?

Robert O’Hara writes and directs *Shit. Meet. Fan*., which follows a long line of works he has both written and staged. He won great acclaim with his New York Times Critics Pick *Bootycandy* at Playwrights Horizons followed by *Barbecue* at The Public Theater before taking *Slave Play* to Broadway, earning him a Tony Award nomination for his direction. Now, he returns to MCC, where he previously directed *BLKS*, another Critic’s Pick.

Unlock your screen and join the fun: Tickets to *Shit. Meet. Fan*. are on New York Theatre Guide.
