The New Group is known for its audacious programming and casts featuring A-list talent. Now, an A-list playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Adam Rapp, brings his newest drama to the celebrated and Tony Award-winning theatre off Broadway.
Rapp is known for his riveting and tightly assembled plays. The Sound Inside, on Broadway, was a smart two-hander starring Mary-Louise Parker about a teacher who asks her student to help him kill her. He brings a similar sense of urgency and thrill to his newest play, Jackals. Carolyn Cantor, winner of the Callaway Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, directs this production.
Jackals also marks an important first for The New Group: it is part of the theatre company's inaugural season at its new home, the Theatre at St. Clement's. That church has doubled as a performance venue for years, and The New Group has long been itinerant. Now, the theatre signed a 30-year lease with the church.
