About Bocking

Bocking plays at The New Group's new home, the Theatre at St. Clement's, for a limited time only starting this summer. Written by Preston Crowder and directed by Stevie Walker-Webb, Bocking is a world premiere from a theatre known for its adventurous programming and starry casts.

Get ready for a raunchy romp… bock bock, muthacluckers! Bocking off Broadway features a preacher, a gay exorcism, and — why not — a chicken named Danalana Parmesana. Those three collide in this hysterical comedy about sex, kink, and meeting in the middle. After a shocking playground incident, two very different sets of parents must come together to reconcile the episode, while also confronting their own taboos along the way.

Not to be missed, Bocking in New York is sure to be a fiery and irreverent new play. Cluck cluck!

More information about Bocking

The New Group produces plays by well-known artists, like Jesse Eisenberg and Hamish Linklater, but also rising ones, as with Preston Crowder, the playwright behind this new comedy. Crowder mentions a dedication to writing stories at the intersection of Black life, queerness, and Southerners in the United States. Crowder has developed this work after being named Playwright-In-Residence with The New Group through the TOW Foundation for its 2024-2025 season. Now, the writer's world premiere will debut this summer.

The new play unites Crowder with a celebrated director, Stevie Walker-Web, a Tony Award-nominated, Obie Award-winning director, playwright, and cultural worker. As Artistic Director of Baltimore Center Stage, his work has also been produced on and off Broadway, including Ain't No Mo' (The Public, and then Broadway) and the upcoming Wanted (on Broadway).

Together, the two bring strong comedic chops to this new sex farce that is sure to rile, rouse, and raise some hell.
