The Oresteia is a play that brings us into the world of a modern family waking up inside an ancient nightmare, in this brilliant new version of a set of Greek myths, written and directed by Simon Stone. As trauma, violence, familial secrets, and revenge all come to a head, this household finds itself trapped in its own pain in a story that was told thousands of years ago but has still not loosened its grip.
The production boasts a formidable cast, including Mary-Louise Parker as Montie, David Morrissey as Christopher, Tom Glynn-Carney as Augie, Rosie Sheehy as Alice, Lloyd Hutchinson as Melville, John Macmillan as Jerome, Archie Madekwe as Lorenzo, Alyth Ross as Jenny, and Rakhee Thakrar as Chandra.

What a show! Sensational performance.
This updated modern version of the Oresteia written by Simon Stone is an absolute delight from start to finish. The bloody story of family tragedy is given an updated contemporary twist, the fast-paced dialog is funny and absorbing, and the backwards and forwards move of the timeline provides deeper insight on the proceedings and the characters. The ensemble cast, starring the amazing Mary-Louise Parker (where have you been? we missed you!) as an unhinged wife, is top notch with great chemistry. The rotating two-story see-through glass set is a marvel on to itself. An absolute must-see!

Aeschylus’s Oresteia was first performed in Athens in 458 BCE and remains one of the theatre’s foundational texts. The trilogy follows the House of Atreus through its tumultuous crimes and acts of violence, watching as the cycle repeats itself.
Simon Stone’s adaptation does not look at the trilogy through an antiquated lens. He instead uses the old myth to dissect contemporary issues surrounding war, intergenerational traumas, and the secrets that we keep. This production places the old myths inside a modern household and asks the audience to sit with the discomfort of knowing that our most ancient pitfalls still haunt us.
The Oresteia in London introduces a masterful creative team including set designer Lizzie Clachan, lighting designer Nick Schlieper, sound designer Peter Rice, costume designer Emma White, and composer Katrina Rose.
