Take a ride through a small community with huge feelings: the Vernon Point Neighborhood Association is a passionate bunch, whether squabbling over historically inaccurate porch railings or debating trash can protocol. However, those issues seem miniature when the real neighbor-versus-neighbor battle royale ensues. A newcomer joins the board, and shortly after doing so suggests the unthinkable: installing a stop sign on the corner of the enclave’s prettiest block.

David Lindsay-Abaire is a master of picking at human idiosyncrasies, which are on full, hilarious display in this big comedy about local drama. "Manhattan Theatre Club has been my artistic home since I was a baby-playwright, so of course I’m thrilled to be back with The Balusters, my newest play about well-intentioned people behaving really badly,” he said in a statement.

He added, “The only thing more exciting than having a new show on Broadway? Having it helmed by the brilliant director Kenny Leon. After twenty-five years of plays with MTC, I’ve never looked forward to sharing a story with an audience more than I am with *The Balusters*."

## What to watch for
- David Lindsay-Abaire has won a Pulitzer Prize for his touching drama *Rabbit Hole*.
- Kenny Leon is known for his stage credits but he also has Emmy nominations for directing *Hairspray Live!* and *American Son*.
- *The Balusters* was commissioned by MTC through the Bank of America New Play Program.
- Lindsay-Abaire returns to MTC where he wrote the Tony Award-nominated *Good People, Ripcord, Wonder of the World, Fuddy Meers*, and *Kimberly Akimbo*, which he later adapted with Jeanine Tesori into the Tony-winning musical.

*The Balusters* is a comedy of manners about a small community with big feelings as residents debate adding a stop sign to a beautiful street corner.

See the newest play from Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire. An uproarious comedy of manners about a neighborhood association from the author of *Kimberly Akimbo, Rabbit Hole*, and *Good People*, *The Balusters* plays at Manhattan Theatre Club as part of its 2025/26 season

Experience *The Balusters* on Broadway to see this new satire: the Vernon Point Neighborhood Association is a passionate bunch, often coming to a head over seemingly small topics that are never small to the board. Whether it's discussing historically inaccurate porch railings or debating trash can protocol, the association has seen it all — until a newcomer arrives. A battle royale ignites when the newcomer suggests the unthinkable: installing a stop sign on the corner of the enclave’s prettiest block.

Tony winner and Emmy nominee Kenny Leon (*A Raisin in the Sun, Hairspray Live!*) directs this new play at Manhattan Theatre Club, which has long been an artistic home for Lindsay-Abaire "I’m thrilled to be back with *The Balusters*, my newest play about well-intentioned people behaving really badly,” he said in a statement. “The only thing more exciting than having a new show on Broadway? Having it helmed by the brilliant director Kenny Leon. After twenty-five years of plays with MTC, I’ve never looked forward to sharing a story with an audience more than I am with *The Balusters*."

With a title that riffs on ballbuster, this play promises to be one of the year's most highly anticipated comedies. MTC produced *Eureka Day*, which won a Tony Award last season, and this new work similarly tackles a small community with big feelings.
