A special kind of performance, this unique play offers a rotating cast of stars at the helm. *Pre-Existing Condition* originally ran at the Connelly Theater, and Drama Desk Award nominee Greg Keller, Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith, and Drama Desk Award winner Sarah Steele reprise their supporting roles from that first run.

Playwright Marin Ireland and director Maria Dizzia said in a shared statement, "We are thrilled and honored to be able to bring the play back at Greenwich House this fall and continue the tradition of rotating the actors playing the central role. We have assembled a dazzling group of women to add to the legacy of our first production — Lupita, Phillipa, Susannah, Hari and Edie are each incredibly dynamic powerhouses, bringing new and singular perspectives."

They added, "Actors sharing the role creates a community inside this production, and we can’t wait for that community to expand to audiences in September."

## What to watch for
- New York Theatre Guide wrote that the play offers an “unfiltered examination of how violence imprints itself on the body and soul."
- Tony nominee Marin Ireland is best known as an actress, for roles in *The Irishman* and *Reasons to be Pretty*, and here she shows off her fierce writing chops in this new play.
- Director Maria Dizzia is also known for her performances, including in *What We Did Before Our Moth Days, Eurydice*, and *Orange Is the New Black*.
- Ireland and Dizzia also said in a statement, "Our hope is that this play has a chance to do what theater does best: make someone feel less alone, hold them in sacred space with others, and shed light in the places we need it most.”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson was born on October 22, 1975 in Missoula, Montana and later raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ferguson has been acting since he was 8 years old, first as a member of Albuquerque Children's Theater and later in high school, and studied performance at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York.

Since then, he has built a prolific, 25-plus-year theatre career in New York and beyond. He made his Off-Broadway debut in *On the Town* at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, and he made his Broadway debut with that production, too, when it transferred to the Gershwin Theatre. His other best-known Broadway roles include Leaf Coneybear in *The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee* — which earned him a Drama League Award nomination, and earned his entire ensemble a Drama Desk Award win — and *Fully Committed*, for which he won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. He's also appeared in multiple Shakespeare in the Park productions, *The Producers* and Monty Python's *Spamalot* at the Hollywood Bowl, and *Log Cabin* off Broadway.

Most people know Ferguson, however, for his TV work — more specifically, for his role as Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC sitcom *Modern Family*. He was in the show for all 11 seasons, from 2009 to 2020, and received four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series alongside his cast. He himself was also nominated five times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He's also appeared on shows like *Ugly Betty, RuPaul's Drag Race*, and *The Good Fight*.

In 2022, Ferguson returned to Broadway for the first time since doing *Fully Committed* in 2016. He played Mason Marzac in the first revival of Richard Greenberg's *Take Me Out*, a role that won Denis O'Hare the Best Featured Actor Tony Award for the premiere Broadway production in 2002. Ferguson himself won a Tony for the role in 2022, and he reprised it in *Take Me Out*'s fall 2022 encore engagement.
