Get *Our Town* tickets and see Emmy Award winner Jim Parsons return to Broadway and star as the Stage Manager in this beloved Thornton Wilder classic. Tony Award winner Kenny Leon stages this new production at the Barrymore Theatre that also features Zoey Deutch, Julie Halston, Katie Holmes, Ephraim Sykes, Richard Thomas, and more. *Our Town* tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.

*Our Town* on Broadway unites one of America’s most famous TV stars with one of theatre’s most acclaimed directors: Jim Parson won four Emmys for his comic turn as Sheldon Cooper on *The Big Bang Theory*, and director Kenny Leon won a Tony Award for *A Raisin in the Sun* and has three nominations for *Fences, A Soldier’s Play*, and, most recently, *Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp through the Cotton Patch*. Together, these two titans of entertainment tell one of theatre’s greatest tales: Emily Webb and George Gibb’s love and life.

A cherished tale of marriage, loss, and community, *Our Town* is Thornton Wilder’s most produced play. Set between 1901 and 1913, the heartwarming story follows the townspeople of the fictional, idyllic Grover’s Corner, New Hampshire, as they go about their everyday lives. Theatrical in its use of the Stage Manger (Parsons), who serves as the narrator of this story, and its minimalist aesthetic that invites the audience to picture their own hometown, the play is endearing, brimming with life, and won Wilder a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Since its premiere in 1938, *Our Town* has been adapted into TV shows, films, a musical, and opera.

Given *Our Town*’s enduring legacy, Edward Albee once called it "the greatest American play ever written,” and, now, it returns to Broadway. See this starry production of *Our Town*, and get tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

Our Town - NYC - NYTG

Jim Parsons is back on Broadway: see *Our Town* play at the Barrymore Theatre this fall. Tony Award winner Kenny Leon directs a star-studded cast for this new production of *Our Town* in New York.

Thornton Wilder’s play, first staged in 1938, is an American classic and has enjoyed countless productions and many New York revivals. Nostalgic, heartwarming, and universal in its exploration of love and grief, *Our Town* finds fresh resonance with each new production, and Kenny Leon, a Broadway visionary, will surely bring his own indelible style to this version, which features the most multicultural cast to perform in the show on Broadway.

Set in the early 1900s, *Our Town* on Broadway is a metatheatrical piece, meaning it takes place in the theater where it is set and usually relies on minimal props or scenery to invite the audience to fill in the gaps and imagine the fictional town of Grover’s Corner. The Stage Manager, here played by Jim Parsons, leads the audience through scenes and describes the world around them. Poetic, moving, and tender, *Our Town* endures as a one-of-a-kind show about the power of community.

## What to watch for

- Jim Parsons has had a firecracker Broadway career, especially of late: he comes to *Our Town* after finishing his Tony-nominated run in *[Mother Play](https://www.todaytix.com/nyc/shows/31354-mother-play-on-broadway)* and has also been seen in *The Boys in the Band, The Normal Heart*, and *An Act of God on Broadway.*
- Kenny Leon often takes classic works and gives them a modern lift. His recent productions of *Purlie Victorious, A Raisin in the Son, Fences*, and *A Soldier’s Play* all earned him Tony Award nominations, and he won for *A Raisin in the Sun.*
- *Our Town* is indicative of a time when straight plays on Broadway employed larger casts; today, many are smaller. Some are solo shows or two-handers, but this production employs a large ensemble of 26 performers.
- *Our Town* not won a Pulitzer and popular acclaim, it is also beloved by playwrights — a true testament to its craft. *Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?* playwright Esward Albee has dubbed the work “the greatest American play ever written.”

Katie Holmes stars in the New York premiere of *The Wanderers*, written by Anna Ziegler and directed by Barry Edelstein, at Roundabout Theatre Company's Laura Pels Theatre. Get *The Wanderers* tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

*The Wanderers* is a play about two couples: Orthodox Jewish newlwyeds Schmuli and Esther, and secular Jew Abe and a movie star (Holmes). The newlyweds' future is all spelled out for them; their marriage is arranged, and they don't know each other well. Abe's future is in his own hands — or so he thinks. When the movie star emails Abe unexpectedly, she puts that belief, and both their marriages, to the test. Both couples wrestle with the question of whether they can be happy with what they have, or if they'll always be looking for something more.

The premiere of *The Wanderers* off Broadway was initially scheduled for 2020; its world premiere was at The Old Globe in San Diego. Playwright Ziegler has had three other shows off Broadway since 2015: *A Delicate Ship*, *The Last Match* (which also played the Laura Pels Theatre), and *Actually*. Across the pond, Nicole Kidman won an Evening Standard Award for her performance in Ziegler's play *Photograph 51*, about scientist Rosalind Franklin's role in discovering DNA.

Director Barry Edelstein has more than 20 Off-Broadway directing credits, which include multiple works at [The Public Theater](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/public-theater) and [Classic Stage Company](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/classic-stage-company). One of these was *Race*, a play he also adapted, in 2001. *The Wanderers* marks his first major Off-Broadway production in more than 10 years; his last was *The Twenty-Seventh Man* at the Public.

Gene Feist and Elizabeth Owens founded Roundabout Theatre Company in 1965. With the support of the Steinbergs’ Charitable Trust, the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre opened to the public in March 2004. The theatre is Roundabout's Off-Broadway home. The inaugural production at the venue was Lynn Nottage’s *Intimate Apparel*, starring Viola Davis.

The complex’s main stage is the Laura Pels Theatre, named after the Roundabout board member who previously funded the company’s first Off-Broadway home at the Criterion Center. The space originally contained 350 seats. During renovation, a 74-seat mezzanine was added to accommodate more of the company’s subscribers.

The theatre is widely used to produce premieres and revivals by established artists. In 2005, Roundabout completed work on the 62-seat Black Box Theatre in the lowest level of the complex. Besides being used as a rehearsal space and for educational programmes, it is also home to the Roundabout Underground initiative, which produces new works by emerging playwrights.
