*BIGFOOT! The Musical * is a musical myth about the small-town corruptions and paranoia that swirl around a misunderstood youth...who happens to be eight feet tall.

See the tall tale you know and love reimagined — and sing. You ain't seen nothing yeti: in *BIGFOOT! The Musical* in New York, a small town is undone when a misunderstood youth — who's eight feet tall — reveals political corruption and neighborhood panic. Don't miss the biggest show to come the Big Apple.

Set in the town of Muddirt, *BIGFOOT! The Musical* follows a youth like no other. In a glow-in-the-dark oasis that exists somewhere between a chemical dump site and a nuclear power plant, *BIGFOOT! The Musical* is a tall tale revitalized and a can’t-miss (or rather, can’t-myth) musical comedy for our times.

Featuring lyrics by Tony and Emmy Award nominee Amber Ruffin (*Some Like it Hot*), a book by Ruffin and Kevin Sciretta (*MST3K*), music by David Schmoll (The Second City) and direction and choreography by Danny Mefford (*Spelling Bee, Fun Home*), BIGFOOT! The Musical is musical comedy’s next big thing.

The musical's footprints are already around New York: it's previewed with a 2024 concert performance at 54 Below and also held developmental performances at New York Stage and Film the same year. Now, it gets a full production, playing for a limited eight-week run at New York City Center. It is presented in association with Manhattan Theatre Club (a new-play generator with decades of shows that have reshaped modern theatre) and also Benson Drive Productions.

Musicals about myths are not new — *[Hadestown](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/14748-hadestown-tickets)* is a Broadway hit and *Bella: An American Tall Tale* made a splash off Broadway in 2017 — but this is the first musical to center Bigfoot.

If you think great musical comedies are an urban legend, this is the show for you.

New York City Center

Architect Harry P. Knowles designed New York City Center, which was built by Clinton and Russell in 1923 for the Shriners under the name of The Mecca Temple. Amid the financial crash of 1929, the building became city property after the Shriners were unable to keep up with tax payments.

Former Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia and New York City Council President Newbold Morris decided to convert the temple into Manhattan’s first performing arts center. The building opened as a theatre in December 1943.

New York City Center is known for its annual Encores! productions since 1994, which restage seldom revived American musicals in concert or semi-staged incarnations. The venue received a Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre in 2000.

Since its launch, New York City Center has become one of the city’s prime venues for dance.

In addition to the 2,557-seat mainstage, the facility houses two smaller theatres — Stage I and Stage II, where Manhattan Theatre Club has hosted its Off-Broadway productions since 1984 — and four studios.

*Elf The Musical* is based on the charming holiday film. Whether it’s your first time experiencing this story or you watch the film every holiday season and know all the characters, there will be much to enjoy in this enchanting stage version of the fan-favorite story. Expect big song-and-dance numbers, lots of laughs, and enough holiday spirit to power Santa’s sleigh.

In *Elf*, Buddy snuck into Santa’s bag as a child one Christmas Eve and was transported to the North Pole. There, he grew up with other elves, but he was noticeably taller than them. Always feeling different, Buddy decides to go on a pilgrimage of self-discovery. He takes a journey to New York City to find his real father, but he gets much more than he bargained for. Buddy finds love, a new family, and rescues Christmas. With four stars from Daily Mail, the show is “rousing festive fun.”

## What to watch for
- Sean Astin has been acting since he was a kid, appearing in dramas and fantasy films alike, but he’s never been on Broadway. His appearance as Santa marks his big debut.
- The original production of the musical broke records at the Hirschfeld box office three times.
- ABC News called the musical "a ight, polished production with enough jokes for adults and special effects for kids.”
- The bookwriters are Tony winners who know musical comedy: Bob Martin won for *The Drowsy Chaperone* and Thomas Meehan for *Hairspray, Annie*, and *The Producers*.
