*The Heart* is a new musical based on the highly lauded novel by Maylis de Kerangal, *Réparer les Vivants*. The piece brings together a talented team of writers: it features a book and additional lyrics by Kait Kerrigan (*[The Great Gatsby](https://www.todaytix.com/nyc/shows/38749-the-great-gatsby-on-broadway)*) and music and lyrics by Anne Eisendrath and Ian Eisendrath (*KPop Demon Hunters*).

Audiences can expect a suspenseful story, electrifying score, and gorgeous book that documents the ties between donor and receiver, doctor and patient, and parent and child. Musicals about the medical field are rare, so audiences will see a unique performance that celebrates caregivers and those they serve. The musical was highly popular in California, with The San Diego Union-Tribune saying the show is "heartfelt, tender, and tear-inducing: a story about life, death, sacrifice, generosity and, ultimately, hope."

Tony winner Christopher Ashley has a knack for bringing new musicals to life, and this intimate story is in lock step with the other projects he masterfully champions.

## What to watch for
- Stage West said the musical is "exciting, immersive, and heart-racing: a bold and enterprising production."
- Choreographer Mandy Moore also worked on Taylor Swift's Eras tour.
- Christopher Ashley also received a Tony Award nomination for Direction of a Musical for *The Rocky Horror Show*.
- Roundabout's season also includes *[The Imaginary Invalid](https://www.todaytix.com/nyc/shows/44369-the-imaginary-invalid)* starring Bill Irwin.
