*BOOP! The Musical* in New York marks the first time the timeless heroine Betty Boop has graced the stage, sung, and danced on stage. Audiences can expect razzle dazzle song and dance numbers, tons of heart, and a story of joyful empowerment in *BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical*. Following its acclaimed run in Chicago, the new musical now comes to Broadway for its debut at the Broadhurst Theatre.

The winning creative team brings a nearly 100-year-old icon to life, introducing her and her signature looks and outfits to a whole new generation. Lovers of old-timey, dazzling musicals will find much to adore in this heartwarming story full of toe-tapping tunes. Get ready for infectious charm, and music, in this Broadway spectacle.

## What to watch for

- Be prepared for lots of glorious dancing and Broadway pizzazz: veteran director Jerry Mitchell is celebrated for his high-energy shows, as with *Hairspray*.
- “You are capable of amazing things,” Betty Boop reminds her audience. Our heroine through an uplifting story, Betty Boop goes through each obstacle with beauty, smarts, and grace.
- Critics loved the Chicago run of the show, sharing, per WGN Radio/TV, the world of the play a “joyous, spectacular, and a creative wonderland.”
- Few bookwriters love musicals as much as Bob Martin: *The Prom* was about actors and *The Drowsy Chaperone* was about one man’s affection for an old-fashioned musical.

The iconic cartoon character comes to life in three-time Tony Award-nominated *BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical*, in which Betty Boop takes a day off from her black-and-white world for a colorful, fun-filled adventure in New York City.

Get *BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical* tickets and see the sweet-sassy, spit-curled icon of joy, empowerment, and playfulness come to the stage for the very first time. After wowing audiences in Chicago, this beloved cartoon character takes the Big Apple by storm in a dazzling production directed by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (*Kinky Boots, La Cage aux Folles, Hairspray*) and is now nominated for three Tony Awards.

Experience *BOOP!* on Broadway in a new musical created by an all-star team. Multiple-time Grammy Award winner David Foster (“I Have Nothing,” “After the Love Is Gone,” “The Prayer”) writes the score, Tony Award nominee Susan Birkenhead (*Working, Jelly’s Last Jam*) contributes the lyrics, and Tony Award winner Bob Martin (*The Drowsy Chaperone, The Prom*) is the comedian behind the libretto.

You are capable of amazing things: *BOOP!* comes to the Broadhurst Theatre in March and brings with it a thrilling song-and-dance-filled story of self-empowerment. Known for her signature looks, Betty Boop is as fiery as her red dress and lips. Now, Betty’s dream of an ordinary day off from the super-celebrity in her black-and-white world leads to a singular adventure of color, pizzazz, and love in New York City.

Audiences and critics have been loving the show: “Jerry Mitchell puts sheer show-stoppery on stage,” Catey Sullivan of the Chicago Sun-Times writes, and Dean Richards of WGN Radio/TV calls the world of the play a “joyous, spectacular, and a creative wonderland!” Great for parents who grew up with this cartoon icon and younger audiences just meeting her on stage, BOOP! promises a wonderful journey for all.

Come see its star in New York City and see where she takes you. Tickets to *BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical* on Broadway are now available. Boop-oop-a-doop!

Suffs on Broadway - Square

Most people have heard of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but they're far from the only influential suffragists. In fact, the main characters of *Suffs* — including Alice Paul, Ida B. Wells, and Inez Milholland — often clash with Anthony's generation of older suffragists who don't believe in disruptive protests as a means of activism. Paul and co. triumphed, but the musical also sheds light on their imperfections, too — namely, how the white leaders often pushed activists of color to the sidelines. Indeed, the Nineteenth Amendment only applied to white women.

*Suffs* premiered at The Public Theater in spring 2022 with a cast including Jenn Colella, Nikki M. James, Phillipa Soo, and Taub herself.

## What to watch for

- The entire lead creative team (Taub, director Leigh Silverman, and choreographer Mayte Natalio) and head producing team of *Suffs* are women. Joining lead producers Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman are Hillary Rodham Clinton and Malala Yousafzai!
- Feeling deja vu? Another historical musical, *Hamilton*, got its start at the Public back in 2015. Like *Suffs*, one person (Lin-Manuel Miranda) wrote the entirety of *Hamilton* and played the starring role.
- Taub was the 2014 recipient of the Jonathan Larson Award. More recently, she collaborated with Elton John on the score for the new *Devil Wears Prada* musical adaptation!
- Phillipa Soo knows her way around a historical role — she earned a Tony nomination for playing Eliza Hamilton in *Hamilton*.
- Natalio is doubly represented on Broadway in the 2023-24 season. A few months before *Suffs* opened, she made her Broadway debut with another new musical, *How to Dance in Ohio*.
- In 2020, The New York Times profiled the *Suffs* team for the documentary series *Offstage*. The documentary series highlighted the impact of Covid-19 on theatremaking in 2020.

March on over to the Music Box Theatre for a historic and history-making musical event. With an all-female lead creative team including writer Shaina Taub, *Suffs* tells the stories of the imperfect yet impassioned women who changed the face of the women's suffrage movement.

*Suffs*, the two-time Tony Award-winning musical from Shaina Taub about the lives and legacies of unsung changemakers in the women’s suffrage movement of 1920, is marching onto Broadway with producers Hillary Rodham Clinton and Malala Yousafzai. Get *Suffs* tickets on New York Theatre Guide, and see Taub's award-winning script and songs on stage.

Just about century ago, the Nineteenth Amendment secured the voting rights of some women, largely thanks to key figures of the women’s suffrage movement: Inez Milholland, Ida B. Wells, and Alice Paul, to name a few. However, this movement was not without its faults. With an honest, 21st-century lens, the *Suffs* musical examines both the crucial building blocks and the cracks in the foundation of the women’s suffrage movement through the women that pioneered it.

With a book and score by fast-rising composer Shaina Taub (also known for collaborating with Elton John on *The Devil Wears Prada* musical), *Suffs* on Broadway brings forth an exciting new voice in musical theatre. Taub makes her Broadway debut after winning the 2014 recipient of the esteemed Jonathan Larson Award and earning acclaim with her work composing and starring in the Public’s *Twelfth Night* and *As You Like It* musical adaptations.

Tony Award nominee and two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (*Violet*) directed the two productions of *Suffs* in New York. The 2022 Off-Broadway premiere at The Public Theater in 2022 starred Taub as Alice Paul alongside Nikki M. James as Wells (who returned for Broadway alongside Taub), Phillipa Soo as Milholland, and more.
