Cry no more, little sister! The supernatural adventure film upon which the musical is based developed a dedicated cult following after its 1987 release, also picking up some awards along the way. It also acted as a springboard for the careers of Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Feldman, and others. Now, a new generation will get to take a bite out of this high-flying, thrilling tale.

"Michael Arden is one of the most dynamic directors working today, and to have him reimagine an iconic film like *The Lost Boys* is thrilling, especially when we consider how it will come to life at the legendary Palace Theatre,” said producers James Carpinello, Marcus Chait, and Tony nominee Patrick Wilson in a joint statement.

Giving pulse, sex appeal, and rhythm to the California vampires is The Rescues: an LA rock band fusing some of their existing songs to this musical’s story while also introducing new numbers specifically for the show.

## What to watch for
- David Hornsby (*It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia*) and Chris Hoch wrote the book.
- The creative team includes music supervision by Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp, choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, scenic design by Tony Award nominee Dane Laffrey and costume design by Ryan Park.
- The Broadway show is produced in special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. Creative consultants Mark Kaufman and Lauren Shuler Donner are overseeing the project.

Get *The Lost Boys* tickets to see the cult-classic movie on Broadway, featuring 2026 Tony Award winners Shoshana Bean and Ali Louis Bourzgui. *The Lost Boys* follows two adolescent brothers who move with their mom to a fictional town only to discover the town’s thriving vampire population. What’s your teenage years without a little romance, family drama… and vampire hunters?

The musical takes a bite out of the 1987’s film’s style: audiences can expect a thrilling, pulpy, charged — and four-time Tony-winning — new musical about coming of age, even alongside the undead.

Tony Award winner Michael Arden (*[Maybe Happy Ending](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/41018-maybe-happy-ending-on-broadway), Parade, Once on This Island*) directs *The Lost Boys* on Broadway. This spellbinding New York premiere features a book by David Hornsby (*It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia*) and Chris Hoch and a score by the L.A.-based The Rescues (Kyler England, Adrianne Gonzalez, and Gabriel Mann), including existing songs by the group reworked for the show.

Joel Schumacher’s 1987 film helped raise the profile of stars Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Dianne Wiest, and Alex Winter. Now, a new generation will bring this story to life under Arden’s assured direction.

"Michael Arden is one of the most dynamic directors working today, and to have him reimagine an iconic film like *The Lost Boys* is thrilling,” said producers James Carpinello, Marcus Chait, and Tony nominee Patrick Wilson in a statement. “David Hornsby and Chris Hoch have done a remarkable job of honoring this classic film and its beloved characters, creating something new and unique for the stage that will excite the die-hard fans of the movie as well as those being introduced to this timeless story for the first time."

The original film won the award for Best Horror Film by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror and helped influence further pop culture vampires.

The Palace Theatre was designed by Kirchoff and Rose, and funded by vaudeville entrepreneur Martin Beck. The Palace Theatre officially opened on March 24, 1913 and became a prime destination for vaudeville acts.

During the Great Depression, the venue became the RKO Palace and primarily hosted radio recordings and functioned as a cinema.

In 1965, the Nederlander Organization purchased the property from RKO and restored its use as a traditional theatre, reopening the venue on January 29, 1966 with the premiere of the musical *Sweet Charity*.

Since 2018, the Palace Theatre has been shut down; the building was lifted 30 feet off the ground to make way for new developments below. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Tommy on Broadway - Square

The dark, mythic, and spectacular story of the pinball wizard is back. *The Who's Tommy* on Broadway, the five-time Tony Award-winning stage adaptation of the landmark concept album and a 2024 Tony nominee for Best Revival of a Musical, has its first revival at the Nederlander Theatre. Get *The Who's Tommy* tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

When young Tommy Walker witnesses a shocking murder, the trauma — and other harrowing incidents — leaves him unable to see, hear, or speak. And then he discovers pinball. Tommy's natural knack for the game turns him into an overnight celebrity, but more importantly, he begins his journey to healing once and for all.

Before *The Who's Tommy* was a musical, the story began as a 1969 concept album simply called *Tommy*, with all the now-famous songs like "Pinball Wizard," "The Acid Queen," "We're Not Gonna Take It," "See Me, Feel Me," and "I'm Free." The critical response was mixed, partly because subjects like trauma, bullying, and mental illness almost never appeared in mainstream music. But some critics called *Tommy* The Who's breakthrough masterpiece — and history would prove them right.

Momentum built in 1975, when *Tommy* got a film adaptation featuring Tina Turner and Elton John. That movie was also the basis for the stage musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1993. The Who co-founder/songwriter Pete Townshend's music finally got the recognition it deserved when *The Who's Tommy* musical won five Tony Awards, including Best Original Score. It also earned the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, and in 1998, the original *Tommy* album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Townshend's collaborator on *The Who's Tommy* was 10-time Tony winner Des McAnuff, who co-wrote the book with Townshend and won one of his Tonys for directing the original production. McAnuff returns to direct the Broadway revival, which premiered at Chicago's Goodman Theatre to acclaim in summer 2023.

The Who's TOMMY - NYC - NYTG

The five-time Tony Award-winning rock sensation returns to Broadway. Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff's musical, inspired by the landmark album by The Who, tells the story of a catatonic boy-turned-pinball wizard with iconic songs like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I'm Free."

*The Who's TOMMY* musical begins when the young Tommy witnesses a murder in his family, which causes his senses to shut down. Though his parents try everything to cure him, only one thing starts to turn his life around: Tommy's discovery that he has a talent for pinball. Suddenly, he's a small-town hero — but maybe, still, at a cost.

The Who debuted *TOMMY* as a concept album in 1969, which soon became The Who's best-known work and went on to earn a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. A film adaptation came out in 1975 before the musical premiered on Broadway in 1993, when it won five Tony Awards, including Best Direction of a Musical for McAnuff and Best Original Score for The Who's co-founder and main songwriter, Pete Townshend.

## What to watch for

- No wonder *TOMMY* became a stage musical — from the start, Townshend said he wanted to be sure the songs would sound just as good live as on the recorded album. This stood in contrast to other then-popular bands like The Beatles and The Beach Boys, some of whose recordings weren't designed for live performance.
- The 2024 production incorporates a lot of yellow in the design, as yellow was Tommy's signature color in the original Broadway production.
- The revival reinvents *Tommy* with technology old and new. The actors move all the set pieces the old-fashioned way, without automation, but the set itself comes to life with elements like LED lights — which weren't even invented yet when the show premiered 30 years ago!
- Townshend got the idea for *TOMMY* after learning about Meher Baba, a 20th-century spiritual leader. He wanted to write music about Baba's teachings and the large following he amassed.
- Rock opera, emphasis on the opera: The Who went on a two-year international tour to promote the *TOMMY* album, and one of the stops was the Metropolitan Opera House.

The Who's Tommy - NYC - TT

Come see the pinball wizard! The Who's groundbreaking, five-time Tony-winning rock opera returns with all its hit songs, like "See Me, Feel Me" and "We're Not Gonna Take It." Experience the dark yet captivating story of a young boy who, after struggling with childhood trauma, becomes an overnight celebrity for his pinball skills.
