Love stories can happen anywhere and between anyone, but it is rare to see one between a hiphop star and a wartime interpreter. Charles Randolph-Wright's play puts audiences in a new headspace, making it a highly appealing and contemporary romance, and one that also features an A-list producing team.
Duke & Roya is produced by Tony Award winners Laura Ivey and Janet Brenner, alongside Smada Media and Get Lifted Film Co.’s Emmy and Tony Award winner Mike Jackson, Emmy Award winner Ty Stiklorius, and EGOT winner John Legend.

Together, they offer audiences a genre-crossing story: a romance, a thriller, and a new epic.
What to watch for
- Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Noma Dumezweni (Only Murders in The Building, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Dariush Kashani (Oslo, The Band’s Visit) also join the cast.
- The Lucille Lortel hosted Oh, Mary! before it went to Broadway.
- Charles Randolph-Wright was in the original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls.
- Returning to theatre, John Legend won a Tony Award for co-producing August Wilson's play Jitney.
