In a poll conducted by the British Royal National Theatre in 1998/99, Waiting for Godot was voted as the "most significant English-language play of the 20th century.” The play is absurd, hilarious, and utterly itself: existential as it looks at what keeps us from moving forward and towards what we want, its themes have been found in many works, and its influential structure was most recently seen on Broadway in Pass Over, the new play that reopened Broadway after COVID, its own time of anxiety and waiting.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will now take on the play’s classic roles. The two are longtime buds, which will work nicely for their onstage character. Reeves and Winter starred in the sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and have gone on to create sequels and spin-offs from that work while also pursuing their own careers. Now, they come to New York to star for the first time together on Broadway after decades of joint filmmaking.

Samuel Beckett’s tragicomedy is a wonderfully confounding masterpiece that follows two people as they wait — and wait — for someone named Godot to maybe (finally) arrive.
Samuel Beckett, one of Ireland's most famous playwrights, wrote this play, which is considered to be his most well-known work.
Olivier Award winner Jamie Lloyd, the director behind starry revivals of Betrayal, Sunset Boulevard, and A Doll's House, stages this new production.
While this is a new production and reviews are not out, the big names in the cast are exciting theatregoers. The play itself is also highly revered and one of the most studied in contemproary literature.
An age recommendation has not been set yet, but Broadway theatres are for audiences four and up.
