Get Stereophonic tickets on TodayTix, and see this sold-out Off-Broadway hit on Broadway.
The band at the center of Stereophonic on Broadway is fictional, but its story will leave you thinking about what might have been — or might not have been — with the now-iconic bands of the era. In Sausalito, California, an up-and-coming group is about to have its big breakthrough — if the pressure doesn't break up the members first.
Original rock music by Arcade Fire's Will Butler propels this dramatic, electric show, named to "Best of 2023" lists in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Washington Post. Stereophonic also earned 13 Tony nominations, a record for a play, and won five.

Great music and compelling acting
As Fleetwood Mac fans, it was a great experience to see a story that we knew unforld in a new way.
The story is almost non-existent. The discussions between characters are about banal topics that never amount to any kind of plot development or character development. It's like eavesdropping on two simpletons at the next table in a coffee shop.

More information about Stereophonic
Playwrights Horizons premiered Stereophonic off Broadway in 2023, extending multiple times and repeatedly selling out. The play's director, Daniel Aukin, is a veteran of that theatre company, having staged multiple plays there, including Catch as Catch Can, Rancho Viejo, Placebo, and This.
For Stereophonic in New York, Aukin teamed up with playwright David Adjmi and composer Will Butler. Butler is a composer and musician who co-created albums like Funeral and the Grammy-winning The Suburbs with Arcade Fire. He's also a composer, earning an Oscar nomination for co-composing the score for the 2013 movie Her.
What to watch for
- All seven Stereophonic cast members play their instruments live on stage.
- David Adjmi was first inspired to write Stereophonic while listening to Led Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Going to Leave You” during a flight.
- David Zinn's set contains two soundproofed sections — the recording booth and the area outside it — so different conversations can happen at once without the other characters being able to hear. Cue secrets and drama!
- Just as Adjmi explores the unseen drama in the '70s music industry in Stereophonic, he did the same for the '70s sitcom world in his play 3C.
- Will Butler and director Daniel Aukin signed on as collaborators on Stereophonic before Adjmi even started writing it!
