The Howard Gilman Opera House is the flagship performance venue of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which also operates the nearby Harvey Theater at BAM Strong, Rose Cinemas, and Lepercq and Fishman Spaces. The venue was unnamed until 1999, when it was named for the late author and arts philanthropist Howard Gilman. This 2,098-seat opera house, built in 1908, hosts all kinds of performances, from concerts to comedy shows to operas to ballets. Artists and troupes like Adele, Sarah Silverman, and American Ballet Theatre have all performed on the Gilman stage.
