About Oh, Mary!
Oh, Mary! is an uproariously dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln, through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).
Declared “one of the best comedies in years” by The New York Times, Oh, Mary! received Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play (Cole Escola) and Best Direction of a Play (Sam Pinkleton).
Mason Alexander Park plays the role of Mary Todd Lincoln until the 25 April and Catherine Tate will take over from 27 April - 18 July.

Oh, Mary! is one of Broadway’s most unexpected breakouts, having been praised for its audacity and inventiveness. Escola’s script twists American history into an absurdist tale, imagining Mary Todd Lincoln as the frustrated, unsatisfied wife whose ambitions are thwarted by her gay, closeted husband and a world that doesn’t take her seriously.
The play is quick and hilariously self-aware, filled with slapstick humour and the theatrical equivalent of a fever dream. Beneath the absurdity, however, lies a piece of tender exploration of repression and the desire to be loved and seen.
This London staging boasts a wonderful creative team, including costume designer Holly Pierson, lighting designer Cha See, sound designers Daniel Kluger and Drew Levy, and original music by Daniel Kluger.
