“Being a part of *Giant* from its inception has been the most challenging and exciting stage experience of my career,” said star John Lithgow in a statement. He went on to call Dahl "a man of dizzying complexity," and Lithgow added that the story "resonates powerfully with events of our present day. No play I’ve ever been in has had such an impact on audiences. I am so proud and honored to play this part.”

“*Giant* was written on spec in my kitchen with no assurance it would ever get produced at all,” said playwright Mark Rosenblatt. “So, to have it premiere at London’s mighty Royal Court Theatre before transferring to the West End was truly life-changing. And now, to open on Broadway, led again by the peerless John Lithgow, is truly the stuff of dreams — I can’t wait to share *Giant* and Nick Hytner’s exceptional production with New York audiences.”

## What to watch for
- Widely known for his three-time Emmy-winning performance on *3rd Rock from the Sun*, Lithgow also won two Tony Awards.
- "*Giant* is all that theatre should be," The Daily Mail said.
- The Times gave *Giant* four stars and called it the "toast of the West End."
- Tony and Olivier award winner Bob Crowley designed this show.

*Giant* dramatizes a period of Roald Dahl's life after the 1983 literary review of one of his picture books.

See three-time Tony Award winner and six-time Emmy Award winner John Lithgow star as Roald Dahl in *Giant* on Broadway. An entertainment icon known for his roles in *The Crown, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Conclave, 3rd Rock from the Sun,* and other hit Broadway shows, TV series, and films, entertainment icon Lithgow is now a 2026 Tony winner for reprising his Oliver Award-winning turn as children's book illustrator Roald Dahl.

“Being a part of *Giant* from its inception has been the most challenging and exciting stage experience of my career,” said Lithgow in a statement. Music Box Theatre

The Music Box Theatre was built in 1921 by theatrical producer Sam H. Harris to house Irving Berlin's musical revue *The Music Box*, written specifically for the venue. The first play to go up at the venue was 1925's *Cradle Snatchers*, and, ironically, the theatre has historically hosted more straight plays than musicals.

The Shubert Organization began acquiring shares in the Music Box Theatre from Harris in the 1920s. When Harris died in 1941, his wife sold half the shares in the theatre to the Shuberts, and half to Berlin.

In 2007, the Shubert Organization became the sole owners of the theatre. The Music Box Theatre's facade and interior are New York City landmarks.

Elizabeth Marvel is no stranger to the stage even as audiences may know her best from her screen roles in *House of Cards, Homeland, Burn After Reading, True Grit, Lincoln*, and others. Now, she returns to the stage as a darkly comic look as a model realizing the power not of others’ gaze but her own.

Caitlin Saylor Stephens is a playwright on the rise, and her work has been hailed as “taut and brutal” (The New York Times), “artistically hazardous” (The New Yorker), “fearlessly poetic” (Culturebot), and like “Cinderella in reverse” (BOMB Magazine). She is not afraid of depicting thorny women, as is the case in this new play, and her plays offer a sharp cultural critique at their burning core. Now, she turns her attention to a model, Roberta (Marvel), who is at the peak of her career after just landing a cover shoot for Vogue. But where will she go from there?

## What to watch for
- Caitlin Saylor Stephens has been nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and has twice received an honorable mention for the Kilroys.
- In addition to Elizabeth Marvel, the cast includes Stella Everett, Maia Novi, Britne Oldford, Sarah Marie Rodriguez, and Madeline Wise.
- Morgan Green has directed new plays at the Bushwick Starr and Playwrights Horizons.
- Elizabeth Marvel is a three-time Obie Award winner and returns to New York theatre in this new play.

Five Models in Ruins- NYC - Todaytix

*Five Models in Ruins, 1981* is a new dark comedy about a model looking for her moment of transcendent beauty — only to wonder if it may be too dangerous to behold.

Get *Five Models in Ruins, 1981* tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see Elizabeth Marvel star in this new dark comedy. *Five Models in Ruins, 1981* plays for a limited run only this spring at Lincoln Center Theater/LCT3’s Claire Tow Theater. Obie Award winner Morgan Green (*School Pictures*) directs this premiere by rising playwright Caitlin Saylor Stephens, whose works The New York Times has called “taut and brutal.”

Experience *Five Models in Ruins, 1981* off Broadway and see Marvel star as Roberta, a model who just landed a cover shoot for Vogue. However, not everything is so rosy from there: the photo location is a nightmare. The other models are vicious. Hair and makeup is somehow missing. And, worst of all, the cigarette supply is running dangerously low.

It all makes for a lot of comedy and chaos, but also introspection: as the photo shoot goes on, Roberta must find the strength (and the perfect light) to capture a moment of transcendent beauty in a brutal world.

Set against the backdrop of Princess Di’s wedding, the play reveals how the rest of Europe is not as peachy as those storied nuptials. Painting with darkness and light, Stephens has crafted a singular play about perceptions of beauty, and the realities they nonetheless bring about. Green makes for a strong partner for this show as she’s previously worked on daring new works, including at Playwrights Horizons and The Bushwick Starr. Now, she makes her LCT debut with Stephens’ premiere.

Audiences are also in for a treat seeing Marvel return to the stage: a three-time Obie winner, she is a theatre veteran and also a screen star, appearing in hit films and TV shows including *House of Cards, Homeland, Burn After Reading, True Grit, Lincoln*, and others.

Tickets to *Five Models in Ruins, 1981* in New York will be available here soon.
