Audiences may be familiar with Jonathan Larson’s work in *Rent*, a Broadway smash, or *tick, tick… BOOM!*, which was turned into a Netflix film starring Andrew Garfield. Now, they get a chance to hear cut songs from his hit musicals and tunes from lesser-known ones. That was key to Jennifer Ashley Tepper, who conceived the show.

“Jonathan Larson dreamed of revolutionizing musical theatre. Tragically, he wasn't around to see his wildest dreams come true, since he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35, right before *Rent* hit,” Tepper said in a statement. “Over a decade ago, I began immersing myself in the hundreds of boxes that Jonathan Larson left behind when he died. The hours of cassette tapes of undiscovered songs, piles of scripts that had never been produced, and many personal letters, photos, journals, and more were endlessly inspiring.”

Now, those undiscovered songs come to life — casting will be announced soon.

## What to watch for
- Discussing Jonathan Larson's legacy, the musical's conceiver Jennifer Ashley Tepper said, “Jonathan's lost songs are political, personal, surprising, galvanizing, relevant, and tell a fascinating new story about a young man following his heart in New York City, trying to change the world."
- Larson's experience creating new musicals is documented in the Netflix film version of his show *tick, tick... BOOM!*, which showed developmental work at Playwrights Horizons off Broadway.
- Larson is known for his rock scores featuring dynamic characters and clever, edgy, and funny lyrics. Well-known songs include "Seasons of Love," "Louder Than Words," and "Take Me or Leave Me."
- While the cast has yet to be announced, the creative team has been: the musical will feature music supervision and orchestrations by two-time Tony Award-winner Charlie Rosen and co-arrangements by Rosen and Natalie Tenenbaum, choreography by Byron Easley, and music direction by Cynthia Meng.

A new musical, *The Jonathan Larson Project* celebrates unheard songs by the Tony Award-winning composer, weaving them together into a thrilling new story.

Get *The Jonathan Larson Project* tickets on New York Theatre Guide and see a new production featuring seldom heard songs from the famed composer of *Rent* and *tick, tick… BOOM!*. In the musical *The Jonathan Larson Project*, audiences can expect to hear Larson’s soaring anthems, witty lyrics, and rock sensibility via songs previously unheard strung together into a new story.

Experience *The Jonathan Larson Project* off Broadway and hear songs from *1984* and *Superbia*, lesser-known Larson projects, alongside cut songs from his beloved hits *Rent* and *tick, tick… BOOM!*.

Jennifer Ashley Tepper, known for her producing work, co-conceived this musical that celebrates Larson’s once-in-a-generation talent. Directed by John Simpkins, *The Jonathan Larson Project* in New York brings together dozens of Larson songs that will be new to many audiences: the tunes come from unfinished and unproduced musicals plus pop songs found in files and boxes after the visionary writer died in 1996.

The project has had a life before: it was originally presented as a concert at 54 Below in 2018 and was released as an album from Ghostlight Records in 2019. Now, audiences can hear Larson anew off Broadway starting this winter.

High school would be a lot easier if you had someone else monitoring your every move. At least that’s what video game nerd Jeremy thought when he swallowed a mysterious Japanese pill said to grant him his very own Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor. The “Squip,” as it’s known around the halls of his New Jersey high school, implants itself in its host’s brain — guiding him or her through angst-ridden adolescence and transforming an everyday outcast into the coolest cat in class. However, when Jeremy’s Squip has taken hold over his entire existence, with plans to conquer the school, the troubled teen must figure out how to shut down the inner demon — for good.
## What to watch for
After the New Jersey engagement of “Be More Chill,” the creators thought the commercial life of the show had come to an end. However, its cast album garnered a solid digital fan base, with over 100 million streams, and became Tumblr’s second most talked-about musical — prompting its resurgence off Broadway.

When the show’s songwriter, Joe Iconis, and actor, George Salazar, played Feinstein’s/54 Below, “Be More Chill” fans came from all over the world. Audience members flew in from Paris, Berlin, and London.

Songwriter Joe Iconis says this is the most attention any of his shows has received. “We needed security for a talkback at a community theater,” he said. “Security!”

“Be More Chill” is based off of the novel of the same name by author Ned Vizzini, who died of an apparent suicide at age 32 in 2013.

Be More Chill on Broadway [12673] - TodayTix

Be More Chill rapidly become a musical phenomenon amongst young theatre fans across the country... even before it opened on Broadway! The musical, based on the popular 2004 novel by Ned Vizzini, features a relentlessly catchy score by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz. It originally premiered in May 2015 as a regional production at the Two River Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey, commissioned as part of its new play development program. What happened next is almost unprecedented...Be More Chill went viral, so to speak, and generated the kind of online buzz on YouTube and various social media platforms that regional productions can only dream of. Even before its New York premiere, the musical's cast recording had been streamed well over 150 million times and on Tumblr, it ranked as the second most talked-about musical on their site (behind Hamilton). Its central themes of teenage angst and cyber escapism had obviously struck a chord with a young, enthusiastic demographic across the States and a New York premiere was just a question of time.Be More Chill officially opened at Pershing Square Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage on August 9, 2018, following previews from July 26, and enjoyed a sold-out 10-week off-Broadway premiere engagement. Fans flew in from around the country and countless hopefuls registered their digital lottery entries or lined up outside the box office for cancellations at every performance. The production also garnered a great deal of critical acclaim in New York, justifying the hype. Our own critic, Stanford Friedman, commented in his 5-star review that the show is "catnip for theater kids and a dynamic dose of escapism for their parents."Having accumulated so much momentum thus far, surely the production's final off-Broadway performance on September 30, 2018 couldn't be its last? Certainly Not. The bright lights of Broadway were beckoning and a multi-million-dollar transfer was announced, with previews beginning at the Lyceum Theatre on February 13, 2019, ahead of an official opening on March 10.Months before the Broadway opening, a film adaptation of the novel and musical was also reported to be in development, with Shawn Levy and Greg Berlanti listed as producers.(Photos by Maria Baranova)

Atlantic Theater Company presents the Off-Broadway world premiere of *The Bedwetter*, featuring a book by two-time Emmy Award-winning comedian Sarah Silverman and Drama Desk Award winner Joshua Harmon, and a score by Silverman and the late Adam Schlesinger. Check back for information on *The Bedwetter* tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

In *The Bedwetter* musical, based on Silverman's same-named memoir, her 10-year-old self is already a budding comedian (and yes, her trademark raunchy humor was no less so back then). It's the best way to deal with having a depressed mother, aging grandma, and unsupportive sister. But that's not the worst of young Sarah's problems — she has a big secret (hint: it's in the title), and when it leaks, her life really turns upside down.

The musical was still unfinished in 2020, when *The Bedwetter* was set to premiere and when Schlesinger ultimately passed away due to Covid-19 complications. *The Band's Visit* Tony Award winner David Yazbek came on as creative consultant to help finish the show for its world premiere in 2022.

Premiering a new musical was the latest in a long string of Silverman's career accomplishments. Besides releasing *The Bedwetter* book in 2010, she's also earned an Emmy nomination for *The Sarah Silverman Program*, aired numerous solo comedy specials, and played dozens of onscreen roles in projects like *Rent*, *School of Rock*, and *Wreck-It Ralph* (voiceover).

Rounding out the creative team are Schlesinger, known for *Crazy-Ex Girlfriend*; Harmon, whose critically acclaimed play *Prayer for the French Republic* hits Broadway in 2023; and director Anne Kauffman, who staged the Tony-nominated 2023 Broadway revival of *The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window*.

Check back for information on tickets to *The Bedwetter* in New York.

Hilarious stories and snippets of megastar comedian Sarah Silverman’s youth, plus one big surprise that is definitely not revealed in the title: *The Bedwetter* has it all. Based on Silverman’s 2010 memoir, *The Bedwetter* sees Silverman’s 10-year-old-self share all her dirty little secrets (possibly in the most literal sense?) with showstopping musical numbers. Set an alert for *The Bedwetter* tickets on TodayTix.

*The Bedwetter* musical features an original book by Silverman and *Prayer for the French Republic* playwright Joshua Harmon. The musical adaptation is based on Silverman’s upbringing and her 2010 memoir, so the script is bound to be a combination of crude and clever – in the best of ways. Silverman collaborated with the late Adam Schlesinger on the score — his final composition before his 2020 death — which takes on a pop/contemporary sound. Obie Award-winning director Anne Kaufman (the Tony-nominated revival of *The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window*) leads the production, and Byron Easley brings choreography.

Set an alert for tickets to *The Bedwetter* off Broadway on TodayTix.

## What to Watch For

- Silverman has written a memoir, hosted her own late-night show, and launched a podcast. With *The Bedwetter*, she checked making her musical debut off the list.
- Tony Award-winning songwriter David Yazbek (*The Band's Visit*) is a creative consultant, adding to the already stacked roster of talent as he helped to finish Schlesinger's score. (Schlesinger did not get to fully finish it before he passed.)
- Joshua Harmon went full-force with comedic writing in *The Bedwetter*. It's a departure from the more somber subjects explored in *A Prayer for the French Republic*, a play about a Jewish family questioning their safety for generations that premiered off Broadway mere months before *The Bedwetter* did. That play's now debuting on Broadway in 2023.
- Some of the chapter titles in *The Bedwetter* book include “My Nana Was Great but Now She’s Dead” and “Hymen, Goodbyemen,” and they inspired some of the musical's songs.
- Though *The Bedwetter*'s humor is not meant for very young children, Silverman has said she hopes families with children come, as the
