“Being a part of *Giant* from its inception has been the most challenging and exciting stage experience of my career,” said star John Lithgow in a statement. He went on to call Dahl "a man of dizzying complexity," and Lithgow added that the story "resonates powerfully with events of our present day. No play I’ve ever been in has had such an impact on audiences. I am so proud and honored to play this part.”

“*Giant* was written on spec in my kitchen with no assurance it would ever get produced at all,” said playwright Mark Rosenblatt. “So, to have it premiere at London’s mighty Royal Court Theatre before transferring to the West End was truly life-changing. And now, to open on Broadway, led again by the peerless John Lithgow, is truly the stuff of dreams — I can’t wait to share *Giant* and Nick Hytner’s exceptional production with New York audiences.”

## What to watch for
- Widely known for his three-time Emmy-winning performance on *3rd Rock from the Sun*, Lithgow also won two Tony Awards.
- "*Giant* is all that theatre should be," The Daily Mail said.
- The Times gave *Giant* four stars and called it the "toast of the West End."
- Tony and Olivier award winner Bob Crowley designed this show.

*Giant* dramatizes a period of Roald Dahl's life after the 1983 literary review of one of his picture books.

See three-time Tony Award winner and six-time Emmy Award winner John Lithgow star as Roald Dahl in *Giant* on Broadway. An entertainment icon known for his roles in *The Crown, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Conclave, 3rd Rock from the Sun,* and other hit Broadway shows, TV series, and films, entertainment icon Lithgow is now a 2026 Tony winner for reprising his Oliver Award-winning turn as children's book illustrator Roald Dahl.

Music Box Theatre

The Music Box Theatre was built in 1921 by theatrical producer Sam H. Harris to house Irving Berlin's musical revue *The Music Box*, written specifically for the venue. The first play to go up at the venue was 1925's *Cradle Snatchers*, and, ironically, the theatre has historically hosted more straight plays than musicals.

The Shubert Organization began acquiring shares in the Music Box Theatre from Harris in the 1920s. When Harris died in 1941, his wife sold half the shares in the theatre to the Shuberts, and half to Berlin.

In 2007, the Shubert Organization became the sole owners of the theatre. The Music Box Theatre's facade and interior are New York City landmarks.

All rise for the stage adaptation of one of the most renowned novels in American literature. *To Kill a Mockingbird* tickets are on sale now.

*To Kill a Mockingbird* is the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by Harper Lee, but *To Kill a Mockingbird* on Broadway in Aaron Sorkin’s new adaptation of the seminal piece. Set in Alabama during the Great Depression, Jean Louise Finch — known to most as Scout — tells the story of how her father, lawyer Atticus Finch, has been appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a Black man undeservedly accused of raping a young white woman. However, Scout and her brother, Jem, are taking the heat for their father’s decision to go through with representing Tom as the trial approaches.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the *To Kill a Mockingbird* play explores justice and tolerance in the American South. Get tickets to *To Kill a Mockingbird* in New York on TodayTix.

## What to Watch For

- Before she died, *To Kill a Mockingbird* novelist Harper Lee agreed to having Aaron Sorkin draft a revised script of *To Kill a Mockingbird* for the stage. That's a great honor, as Lee famously disliked having adaptations made of her work and never went to see them.
- In the new script, Atticus Finch experiences a gradual moral evolution. According to Aaron Sorkin, “As far as Atticus and his virtue goes, this is a different take on *Mockingbird* than Harper Lee’s or [1962 film screenwriter] Horton Foote’s."
- Novelist Harper Lee based the character of Atticus Finch on her own father, A.C. Lee, who worked as a lawyer and defended two African American men accused of murder.
- *The To Kill a Mockingbird* book was previously adapted as a play by Christopher Sergel. His show debuted in 1990 in Lee’s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama and still plays there annually. Sorkin's adaptation marks the first time Lee’s story is brought to life on Broadway.
- Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

To Kill a Mockingbird will reopen at the Shubert Theatre from October 5. Jeff Daniels and Celia Keenan-Bolger will return. To Kill a Mockingbird tickets in New York are on sale soon.Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin's new stage adaptation of Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, officially opened on Broadway on December 13, 2018, following previews from November 1.Harper Lee's debut novel was published in 1960 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It has gone on to sell over 50 million copies in print to date and has been published in over 40 different languages. It tells the story of a lawyer from the tired old town of Maycomb, Atticus Finch, who is tasked with defending Tom Robinson, a black man facing trial on rape charges. The novel is told from the point of view of Scout, Atticus' young daughter, and deals delicately with the topics of racial tension and justice.Original company member Jeff Daniels, who created the role of Atticus Finch in the Broadway production, is an esteemed Emmy Award-winning actor known for his celebrated screen performances in the likes of "Terms of Endearment," "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Dumb and Dumber," "The Newsroom," and many more. He is also a four-time Golden Globe nominee. On stage, he has received Tony Award nominations for his performances in God of Carnage in 2009, in Blackbird in 2016, and for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in 2019.Original Broadway cast member Celia Keenan-Bolger won her first Tony Award for her performance as Scout Finch at The 73rd Annual Tony Awards, justifying her position as the heart and soul of this smash hit play. Alongside her brother Jem and best friend Dill, Scout constantly breaks the fourth wall to guide the audience through Harper Lee's twisting tale, both inside and outside of the courtroom. Her bravery and innocence symbolise hope for future generations in the face of prejudice and injustice.Featuring one of the most gifted ensembles on the Great White Way, ingenious scenic design which enables complicated set pieces to slide on and off the stage seamlessly, and atmospheric lighting, To Kill a Mockingbird exemplifies stagecraft at its best and is also a stark reminder of how the more things change in American society, the more they remain the same. It is an urgent call to action, rather than a period piece, and an important (albeit highly entertaining) lesson for young theatregoers across the States. This Broadway premiere of To Kill a Mockingbird was assembled by a team of theatrical Heavyweights with Scott Rudin as lead producer, Bartlett Sher as director and Aaron Sorkin as playwright and audiences have flocked to the Shubert Theatre ever since the show's first preview performance. As with all holiday weekends spent at home with family, tensions are high and true colors emerge in Young Jean Lee’s “Straight White Men.” It’s Christmas Eve, and Ed has gathered his three grown sons at home to celebrate. Drew, a celebrated fiction writer, and Jake, a well-off banker, journey back to the Midwest to join Matt, the oldest and least successful of the three — he’s been living at home with their father for a while now.

A seemingly ordinary holiday quickly turns hostile, though, when Matt breaks down into tears, conversations concerning a straight white man’s purpose come to the forefront. Is the privileged white guy, who once studied at Harvard, cracking under pressure to follow society’s master plan? And what exactly is the marker to measure his success? In “Straight White Men,” questions like these are explored beside the Christmas tree.
## What to watch for
“Straight White Men” marks the first Broadway play by an Asian-American female playwright.

“Call Me By Your Name” actor Armie Hammer makes his Broadway debut as Drew, the fiction writer, in “Straight White Men.”

Playwright Young Jean Lee identifies most closely with the character of Matt. In fact, she says, “Matt is me. If I woke up tomorrow as a single white male, I would have a crisis.”

“Straight White Men” premiered off Broadway at the Public Theater in 2014 to rave reviews, and Anna D. Shapiro, who helms the Broadway production, produced the play at Steppenwolf Theatre, where she’s the artistic director, in 2017.

The Hayes Theater officially opened as The Little Theatre on March 12, 1912. The building was designed by Harry Creighton Ingalls and built by Winthrop Ames, opening with John Galsworthy's play *The Pigeon*.

During the 1920s, the theatre was redesigned by Herbert J. Krapp to increase the capacity from 300 to 590. The New York Times purchased the building in 1931, converting it to a conference hall under the name of New York Times Hall.

In 1979, Martin Markinson and Donald Tick bought the theatre and renamed it in 1983 to the Helen Hayes Theatre to honor the actress. A previous theatre bearing her name was demolished in 1982 to make way for the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

On April 18, 2015, it was officially announced that Second Stage Theater had purchased the property. It was later revealed that the venue would be renamed the Hayes Theater, and it opened in spring 2018. The Hayes Theater is the smallest Broadway theatre, now with 597 seats.
