Originally released for the screen in 1952, *High Noon* is regarded as a deeply influential film in cinematic history, having won four Academy Awards. This new stage adaptation marks the first time this story will be brought to life on stage, transforming its structure into something more immersive.

Oscar winner Eric Roth makes his stage debut with this adaptation, preserving the story’s moral questions while sharpening its relevance for a modern audience. *High Noon* is deeply resonant with its themes of responsibility, fear, and what it means to take a stand.

This staging stars Tony and Emmy Award-winning Billy Crudup (*The Morning Show, Harry Clarke*) alongside Olivier Award-winner Denise Gough (*People, Places & Things*). *High Noon* in London also has a wonderful creative team, including set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Neil Austin, music by Chris Egan, and sound design by Nick Lidster.

## What to watch for

- *High Noon* was famously interpreted as being an allegory for the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950’s.
- There was a television sequel of *High Noon* that aired on CBS in 1980.
- John Wayne was offered the lead role in the 1952 film, but refused because he thought the story was an allegory against blacklisting, which he actively supported.
- Gary Cooper won the Academy Award for ‘Best Actor’ in the film.

High Noon - LON - TT Override

Don’t miss *High Noon*, a thriller like none other, as it brings one of the most iconic westerns to life on stage. Starring Billy Crudup and Denise Gough, this gripping West End premiere counts down to what feels like an impossible choice.

For the first time, one of the most iconic Westerns in cinema history is reimagined for the stage. *High Noon* makes its world premiere in the West End in a trailblazing new adaptation by Oscar Award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (F*orrest Gump, Dune*) and directed by Olivier Award-winner Thea Sharrock (*After the Dance*). Book *High Noon* tickets on London Theatre.

*High Noon* is a play told in real time. It's a thriller that unfolds over a countdown, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats. Marshal Will Kane is newly married to the beautiful Amy Fowler, and they're ready to leave the town behind. That is, of course, until Kane learns that Frank Miller, a deadly outlaw he previously sent to prison, is arriving on the noon train. As the clock ticks away, Kane faces an impossible choice: walk away with the woman he loves, or stand alone for a violent reckoning.

Set in New Mexico Territory in the 1800's, *High Noon* explores themes that remain contemporary: bravery in the face of fear, justice, and duty. What was once a powerful allegory of Hollywood's blacklist, this story resonates now as an examination of what happens when communities run from responsibility, and how standing your ground comes at a great cost.

*High Noon* in London stars Tony and Emmy Award-winning Billy Crudup (*The Morning Show, Harry Clarke*) alongside Olivier Award-winner Denise Gough (*People, Places & Things*). It also boasts a formidable creative team, including director Thea Sharrock, set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Neil Austin, music by Chris Egan, and sound design by Nick Lidster.

This limited West End premiere brings a rare intensity to the stage and is sure to be a performance audiences will not soon forget.

Your Lie in April

Due to phenomenal demand, critically acclaimed Your Lie in April will transfer to the Harold Pinter Theatre for 12 weeks only.

The Harold Pinter Theatre, established and adorned with Victorian architecture in 1881, is one of the most notable theatre venues in the heart of London. Originally known as the Royal Comedy Theatre, it later adopted the name of 'Harold Pinter', honouring the famous playwright. The theatre is situated conveniently in the centre of the bustling West End, an ideal location for tourists and locals alike. The interior is decorated with an impressive array of original features aligned with its historical era of inception, creating an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for theatre-goers. The theatre has an audience capacity of 796 people across four levels, with the seats divided into Stalls, Dress Circle, Royal Circle and Balcony. Over time, it has been home to many outstanding performances, including shows like 'The Homecoming', 'Moonlight', and 'Betrayal'. The Harold Pinter Theatre undoubtedly offers a memorable and culturally enriching experience for all those who visit.

### How to Get to the Venue

Harold Pinter Theatre is accessible and well-connected, located at Panton Street in the City of Westminster. The closest Underground stations are Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, both within a short 5-minute walk. Numerous buses service the area regularly, making it straightforward to reach using public transport. The Harold Pinter Theatre opened on 15 Oct. 1881 as a comic opera house. Its name on opening was the Royal Comedy Theatre, though its ‘Royal’ epithet was dropped in 1884.

The Comedy Theatre helped establish the New Watergate Club in 1956, a society which helped overturn the stage censorship enforced by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office. The formation of the Club meant that the plays banned by the Government could be performed at this venue as it was now being run as a private club rather than a commercial entity. Notable plays in this category include Arthur Miller’s *A View from the Bridge* and Tennessee Williams’ *Cat On A Hot Tin Roof*. The censorship was finally overturned in 1968.

Harold Pinter's works were often performed here: *The Homecoming*, *The Caretaker*, *Moonlight*, *No-Man’s Land* and *The Hothouse* all enjoyed successful runs, and Pinter directed a production of *The Old Masters* here in 2004. After his death, it was thought fitting to bestow the honour of naming a theatre after him, and the name was officially changed on 13 Oct. 2011 to the Harold Pinter Theatre. The Ambassador Theatre Group own the Harold Pinter Theatre.

## Harold Pinter Theatre Seating Information

The auditorium has four levels – Stalls, Dress Circle, Royal Circle and Balcony. The top three levels are a horseshoe shape around the stalls.

The Stalls is a single block of seats, and offers good sightlines. Some seats are impaired by supportive pillars and the overhang of the Dress Circle.

The Dress Circle doesn’t offer a great raking in the seating, but the view is not affected by the overhang of the Royal Circle.

The Royal Circle seats curve towards the stage more noticeably than the Dress Circle.

The Balcony feels very high in this theatre.

Opened in 1881 as the Royal Comedy Theatre, it became the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2011. It features four seating levels and hosted notable uncensored plays.

Henrik Ibsen is perhaps best known for *Hedda Gabler* and *A Doll’s House*, plays that are frequently revived on and off Broadway. But *Ghosts* is equally powerful if a bit lesser known, perhaps because of how banned it was after its premiere, speaking to its influence and controversial views. Ahead of his time, Ibsen was critiquing religion and the subjugated role of women in his plays, which, over a century later, still speak volumes.

*Ghosts* is an acclaimed work because of its addressing of such societal taboos, including euthanasia and incest. The play is a compelling thriller and a pushback against rigid morals. Audiences can expect a tightly crafted piece that keeps you on the edge of your seat and won’t let go until the final, incredible climax.

A celebrator of new works and big-budget revivals, Lincoln Center Theater combines that programming in this play: a classic work rewritten for a new audience.

## What to watch for
- *Ghosts* plays at the Newhouse Theater, which has hosted many great new plays, including *Admissions* by Joshua Harmon, *The Wolves* by Sarah DeLappe, and *Oslo* by J. T. Rogers.
- Jack O’Brien returns to Lincoln Center Theater, where he won a Tony for directing *The Coast of Utopia*; he’s won two others and been nominated seven other times.
- O’Rowe’s version played at the Abbey Theatre in 2023, earning four-star reviews from The Irish Times, Financial Times, The Stage, and Irish Mail.
- Ibsen was recently seen on Broadway with the Jessica Chastain-led revival of *A Doll’s House*, directed by Jamie Lloyd who is now on Broadway with *[Sunset Boulevard](https://www.todaytix.com/nyc/shows/38372-sunset-boulevard-broadway)*.

__Additional Information__

Children under 5 are not permitted in the theatre.

No weapons permitted on the premises. No outside food or beverages, electric scooters, e-bikes, or battery-powered transportation devices, except when medically necessary.

All items are subject to inspection. Anything brought into the theatre must fit on your lap or completely under your seat without blocking any aisles. Avoid bringing packages, luggage, and backpacks. Some items must be checked.

The use of cameras, cell phones, and other recording devices during the show is strictly prohibited by law, except when used for accessibility services.

Henrick Ibsen’s *Ghosts* — coming to Lincoln Center Theater for a limited run — follows the return of a son, abroad for years, bringing back tales of travels…and a terrifying secret. Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien directs Mark O’Rowe’s four-star play.

Get *Ghosts* tickets and see Henrik Ibsen’s classic 1881 classic wildly reimagined at Lincoln Center Theater this winter. A fascinating thriller, *Ghosts* plays at the Newhouse Theater in a new production adapted by one of Ireland’s leading writers, Mark O’Rowe (*Boy A, Normal People*). Three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (*Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia, Henry IV*) directs this play in which love, duty and family are mercilessly put to the test.

Experience *Ghosts* off Broadway and uncover the mystery of the Alving family. Helena’s son has been abroad for years and finally returns home, bringing with him stories of his adventures but also a scandalous and terrifying secret. When it comes to light, it unlocks a devastating moral thriller that will shake the family forever. *Ghosts* will keep you on the edge of your seat, gripping you and refusing to let go — all the way through its electrifying climax.

Ibsen is known for his scathing commentary on 19th-century morality. As with *Hedda Gabler* and *A Doll’s House*, he was acutely aware of how domesticity trapped women in impossible circumstances. *Ghosts* was equally revelatory for its time, which also meant it was loathed: subject matter included incest, euthanasia, and critiques of religion, leading to immediate controversy and negative criticism.

Nonetheless, the play, like Ibsen’s monumental career, endures. A damnation of puritanical societies, *Ghosts* aims to explore the dangers of repression and black and white schools of thinking. The play takes on fresh relevance in this exhilarating new production.

O’Rowe’s version played at the Abbey Theatre in 2023, earning four-star reviews from The Irish Times, Financial Times, The Stage, and Irish Mail. Now, the new adaptation hops across the pond. Prepare to be haunted by sin and secrets.
