Audiences may be familiar with Jonathan Larson’s work in *Rent*, a Broadway smash, or *tick, tick… BOOM!*, which was turned into a Netflix film starring Andrew Garfield. Now, they get a chance to hear cut songs from his hit musicals and tunes from lesser-known ones. That was key to Jennifer Ashley Tepper, who conceived the show.

“Jonathan Larson dreamed of revolutionizing musical theatre. Tragically, he wasn't around to see his wildest dreams come true, since he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35, right before *Rent* hit,” Tepper said in a statement. “Over a decade ago, I began immersing myself in the hundreds of boxes that Jonathan Larson left behind when he died. The hours of cassette tapes of undiscovered songs, piles of scripts that had never been produced, and many personal letters, photos, journals, and more were endlessly inspiring.”

Now, those undiscovered songs come to life — casting will be announced soon.

## What to watch for
- Discussing Jonathan Larson's legacy, the musical's conceiver Jennifer Ashley Tepper said, “Jonathan's lost songs are political, personal, surprising, galvanizing, relevant, and tell a fascinating new story about a young man following his heart in New York City, trying to change the world."
- Larson's experience creating new musicals is documented in the Netflix film version of his show *tick, tick... BOOM!*, which showed developmental work at Playwrights Horizons off Broadway.
- Larson is known for his rock scores featuring dynamic characters and clever, edgy, and funny lyrics. Well-known songs include "Seasons of Love," "Louder Than Words," and "Take Me or Leave Me."
- While the cast has yet to be announced, the creative team has been: the musical will feature music supervision and orchestrations by two-time Tony Award-winner Charlie Rosen and co-arrangements by Rosen and Natalie Tenenbaum, choreography by Byron Easley, and music direction by Cynthia Meng.

A new musical, *The Jonathan Larson Project* celebrates unheard songs by the Tony Award-winning composer, weaving them together into a thrilling new story.

Get *The Jonathan Larson Project* tickets on New York Theatre Guide and see a new production featuring seldom heard songs from the famed composer of *Rent* and *tick, tick… BOOM!*. In the musical *The Jonathan Larson Project*, audiences can expect to hear Larson’s soaring anthems, witty lyrics, and rock sensibility via songs previously unheard strung together into a new story.

Experience *The Jonathan Larson Project* off Broadway and hear songs from *1984* and *Superbia*, lesser-known Larson projects, alongside cut songs from his beloved hits *Rent* and *tick, tick… BOOM!*.

Jennifer Ashley Tepper, known for her producing work, co-conceived this musical that celebrates Larson’s once-in-a-generation talent. Directed by John Simpkins, *The Jonathan Larson Project* in New York brings together dozens of Larson songs that will be new to many audiences: the tunes come from unfinished and unproduced musicals plus pop songs found in files and boxes after the visionary writer died in 1996.

The project has had a life before: it was originally presented as a concert at 54 Below in 2018 and was released as an album from Ghostlight Records in 2019. Now, audiences can hear Larson anew off Broadway starting this winter.
