Todrick Hall has been working on this new musical for years and, as he told People Magazine, "The writing process starts long before you put pen to paper. I started thinking about the characters and sitting with them. I decided I didn't just want to make a musical. I wanted to make a movement."
That movement is one fueled by empathy and understanding of everyone's life experiences, which are themes in this original new musical. Hall appears in it alongside a cast of 11 singers and performers, and the show tackles timely themes despite the story taking place over a century ago. As the country changes, what world have these characters inherited? How will they navigate a new world? And how will they treat others, including those different from them, as they move onward?
Midnight explores these rich questions with nuance and verve — all set to a throbbing score that audiences will adore.
