About Mix and Master

Set an alert for when Mix and Master tickets go on sale to see Tony Award winners Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Kara Young star in Dominique Morisseau's newest play. Mix and Master plays at the Todd Haimes Theatre as part of Roundabout Theatre Company's 2026/27 season. Concerning a clash of generations — and the fight for a record shop's survival — Mix and Master gives voice to the issues facing today's musicians and the gathering hubs they call home.

In Mix and Match in New York City, audiences will witness the story of the last record shop in the Bronx, now on its final spin. However, a rising DJ isn’t ready to let the music go. Directed by Kamilah Forbes, executive producer of the Apollo Theater, Mix and Match features live DJ sets throughout the enthralling performance that showcases hip-hop and jazz music. What starts as a battle for the shop's future evolves into a reckoning over legacy.

More information about Mix and Master

Dominique Morisseau is known for her electrifying prose and consistent look at everyday people who give their lives to an industry, city, or community. Skeleton Crew, about a group of workers manufacturing cars, opened on Broadway in 2022 and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. Morisseau also won an Obie Award for that work, shared with director Ruben Santiago-Hudson, who now stars in Mix and Master.

She is also known for her play Paradise Blue, which, like her newest play, also traced the lives of musicians. That play received the L. Arnold Weissberger Award and also had multiple prestigious productions, including at Williamstown Theater Festival, where it had its world premiere. Now, Morisseau returns to Broadway with this latest play about musicians holding on in a changing industry. She has a keen ear for character development, tight plots, and timely themes, all evinced in this newest work.

What to watch for

  • Kara Young is the first Black actress to win two consecutive Tony Awards.
  • Ruben Santiago-Hudson has earned three Drama Desk Awards and been nominated for a Primetime Emmy.
  • Dominique Morisseau is known for her Detroit Project, where she wrote plays that reflect that city, and in this newest play, she sets her story in the Bronx.
  • Roundabout is known for its revivals of classics with stars, but it also produces new works as with this drama.
