About The Unbelievers
See this staggering and surprisingly funny new work about the power of hope from Tony and Olivier Award-nominated writer Nick Payne (Constellations, Incognito). The Unbelievers plays for a limited run only at Manhattan Theatre Club, premiering on its New York City Center Stage I starting this October. Tony Award nominee Knud Adams (English, Cold War Choir Practice) returns to MTC to direct this new play.
In The Unbelievers off Broadway, Miriam and David live their ordinary days in the wake of an extraordinary event: years ago, their teenage son went missing. The mystery of his disappearance remains unsolved, and as Miriam and David go about their days, they cling to the only thing they can, even if in secret: hope that he will someday return. A beautiful, moving, and also funny work, The Unbelievers is a powerhouse show not to miss.

More information about The Unbelievers
Many shows have tackled different forms of faith — The Christians, Prayer for the French Republic, The Profane, Head of Passes — but The Unbelievers situates faith in the ordinary when the extraordinary occurs. Sometimes, it is the unexplainable and surprising that offers the biggest test of faith as those left behind are left to search in the dark.
It is this circumstance that makes The Unbelievers so compelling and fresh. In today's digital age, finding answers is easier than ever. And yet, for central couple David and Miriam in this play, answers only get more elusive as more time passes. Where is their young son, and how should they go about their lives in his absence?
The Unbelievers is an uncompromising, unflinching account of how two people, and the planets in their orbit, try to move on from the unthinkable. Audiences can expect a poignant and disarmingly funny new play about the strange power of hope.
