Music City off Broadway is a gritty and charming jukebox musical featuring the songs of multi-platinum songwriter J.T. Harding, including “Smile," “Somewhere In My Car," and "Sangria." Following a pair of singer-songwriters looking to make it big in Nashville, this musical extended three times at the Upper West Side’s West End Theater. Now, it moves closer to Times Square in an more elaborate production directed by Bedlam artistic director Eric Tucker.

More information about Music City
Jukebox musicals are nothing new — there's Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, & Juliet, and so many more. However, one that specifically centers country music is rarer, and J.T. Harding's catalogue is rich in country hits. Born in Nashville, Harding has written songs for Uncle Kracker, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, and others.
Those songs are the star of this new musical, which is produced by Gabrielle Palitz, known for her Broadway credits including Buena Vista Social Club, Our Town, Bandstand, and others.
“The Wicked Tickle feels like Nashville’s Broadway dropped right into the middle of Manhattan — loud, alive, and full of stories,” Harding said in a statement. “The great critical and audience response meant the world to us. Taking the show to midtown feels like opening the doors even wider, letting the music, the stories, and the heart of this show reach an even bigger audience.”
What to watch for
- The musical features a book by playwright Peter Zinn, who holds an MFA from NYU.
- Music City was nominated for two 2025 Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical.
- Using music as its narrative thrust, the musical explores themes of addiction, poverty, and haunting pasts.
- J.T. Harding is a Billboard Chart-topping songwriter.
