About Prince F*ggot

See a flavorful, unabashed, and riveting new satire. Jordan Tannahill’s new play asks what happens when a monarch is an absolute queer and has absolute power — fierce, or foe? Prince F*ggot plays at Playwrights Horizons’ upstairs Peter Jay Sharp Theater in a co-production with Soho Rep., running this spring for a limited time only.

Experience Prince F*ggot in New York for a play like no other. Featuring a cast of all trans, nonbinary, and queer performers, this play’s ensemble shows a parallel universe where the monarchy slaps, slays…and maybe slips. Can queerness become hierarchical and all-powerful, and what are the cautionary tales of an identity that thrives on collective community becoming one associated with omnipotent power? See Prince F*ggot off Broadway to find out in this daring new play. Pulitzer Prize finalist Shayok Misha Chowdhury directs.

More information about Prince F*ggot

The future is queer — and that’s a good thing, right? What happens when queer folx become the ruling class? An uproarious dissection of power and privilege, Jordan Tannahill’s new play summons an alternate reality where queer folks hold all the power. What could go wrong?

Come to find out: with stinging satire and provocative questions, Prince F*ggot is a joyous, hyperqueer, and singular look at how power takes shape. Audiences will see an ensemble of queer, trans, and nonbinary performers reckon with how the forces of the ruling class and colonization play upon their lives as the playwright offers a central probing question: what if queer people dared to imagine a future monarch having a life that resembled their own?

Tannahill is a writer on the rise, with the Toronto Star calling him “a natural storyteller with a strong sense of narrative rhythm as well as the ability to launch into almost mystical flights of poetic vision.”

What to watch for

  • Jordan Tannahill has won two Governor General’s Literary Awards, Canada’s highest state honour for literature. The awards wrote he “possesses a powerful artistic voice that reflects where we come from, who we are and who we may become.”
  • Shayok Misha Chowdhury is an Obie Award winner for his play Public Obscenities, which he also directed in an extended run last season.
  • Soho Rep. recently departed from its downtown space and now presents at Playwrights Horizons, and the two are co-producing this premiere.
