Created and performed by the award-winning Australian theatre collective Pony Cam, Burnout Paradise in New York is a cringe comedy, sweaty spectacle, and piece of theatre that needs to be seen to be believed.
Burnout Paradise off Broadway previously premiered in North America at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn. In the play, four performers complete in a dizzying mix of challenges while collectively running 20 kilometers on treadmills. Who will accomplish all their tasks before the timer runs out? A nail biter of a show with thrills and gags along the way, Burnout Paradise is a stunning show perfectly fit for the city that never sleeps.

LOVED this show and wish it was playing for longer. The actors are incredible, probably logging 40 miles a week - I run marathons and that's the mileage for the peak week of marathon training! I watched this show during a particularly stressful workweek and it unfortunately did not make me feel any less stressed, but I got so much enjoyment and laughed so much from the insanity and audience participation. The energy of the audience was electric, it felt like we were all wanting to help and thoroughly enjoying the experience. I really hope this show returns to NYC.

Preparing a three-course meal. Shampooing hair. Reciting Hamlet’s soliloquy. The four actors do it all in this return engagement of the hit play, all while running on a treadmill — because is each task really that hard to do alone? As the actors walk the dog and pick up its poop, or write and submit an arts grant, or do some other insane task simultaneously with another, audiences gain a darkly honest look at what it means to make a living in 2025 society.
Can the actors really do it all? If they fail (and, they often do) they offer the audience their money back. Originating in Australia, the Parrot Ox–produced play previously ran the Edinburgh Fringe, where it was a hit before coming to the United States. After its Brooklyn bow, it returns, now to Manhattan. A show unlike any other, Burnout Paradise is performed by Claire Bird, Ava Campbell, William Strom, Dominic Weintraub, and Hugo Williams.

- The show was first developed in 2024 as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival.
- The creative team feature scenic and video design by Jim Findlay (Measure for Measure) and Pony Cam, lighting by Dans Maree Sheehan (Elevator Repair Service), and sound by Tony winner Cody Spencer (The Outsiders).
