More information about I’m Assuming You Know David Greenspan
I'm Assuming You Know David Greenspan brings together three of downtown theatre’s most exciting artists: Drama Desk Award nominee Mona Pirnot (creator and performer of I Love You So Much I Could Die) who writes the play, Lifetime Achievement Obie Award winner David Greenspan who stars in it, and Obie Award winner Ken Rus Schmoll (A Map of Virtue, Antlia Pneumatica) who directs it.
The play is a savvy comedy (that’s not short on drama) and a love letter to Greenspan’s many talents. Known for his pitched voice, elastic physicality, and comedic genius, the play is a tribute to his talents. He stars as a version of himself playing four millennial women who are all trying to make it in New York as a playwright. Dreams will be crushed, die, and rise from the ashes. See a 68-year-old performer still very much in his prime take the stage by storm.
What to watch for
- Atlantic Theater, this season, has had A-list celebrities, such as Sandra Oh and Tony Shalhoub, but now it has a downtown celebrity who is no less starry: David Greenspan. This play marks his Atlantic Theater debut.
- Greenspan often works in solo show mediums, which is what playwright Mona Pirnot has also done: her show at New York Theatre Workshop, I Love You So Much I Could Die, was a Lortel and Outer Critics Circle nominee.
- Ken Rus Schmoll is a new play champion with credits at Playwrights Horizons, Clubbed Thumb, and other esteemed theatres.
- Atlantic Theater Company is known for mighty new plays and dazzling musicals, some of which have won Tonys like Spring Awakening, Kimberly Akimbo, and The Band’s Visit.
