Ragtime is a singularly American story featuring three families: Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah, Jewish immigrant Tateh and his young daughter, and a wealthy white family led by a matriarch Mother who are all grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold onto it.
Lincoln Center Theater's new Artistic Director Lear deBessonet, a Tony-nominated director (Once Upon a Mattress, Into the Woods), stages this production, which opens her inaugural season. Envisioned for the grand Vivian Beaumont Theater, “Ragtime feels like the perfect way to begin my tenure as Artistic Director of this very sacred place,” said deBessonet in a statement. “As we celebrate the legacy of LCT and the level of art that has been achieved over the last four decades, it is important for us to continue to be inspired by the sublime possibilities of theater through stories that demand to be told. Such a story is Ragtime.”
Ragtime is at New York's Vivian Beaumont Theater - Lincoln Center Theater, which is located at 150 West 65th Street, New York, 10023.
Ragtime runs for 2hr 45min. Incl. 15min intermission.

Based on the bestselling novel, Ragtime is a musical epic that features three fictional families as they move through a rapidly changing New York in pursuit of the American Dream.
Ragtime features a lush score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, a stirring book by Terrence McNally, and original orchestrations by William David Brohn, all of whom won Tony Awards for their work.
The music in Ragtime reflects the titular style: vibrant melodies with ragged rhythms that dominated the music scene of the early 1900s. The score features duets and ballads that are now iconic, including "Wheels of a Dream" and "Make Them Hear You."
Lear deBessonet directs this show as her debut production as Artistic Director of Lincoln Center Theater.
Yes — with an A-list cast, gorgeous score, and a Tony-winning history, the musical is one of the form's most cherished.
Broadway audiences must be four and over to enter theatres, and this show has some darker themes including racism and deaths.
