About N/A - The Play
Get N/A tickets and see Emmy Award winner Holland Taylor (The Practice) and Theatre World Award winner Ana Villafañe (On Your Feet!) star as two Congresswomen, "N" and "A," in this fierce political drama written by a former Congressional aide. Diane Paulus, the artistic director of American Repertory Theater and a Tony Award winner for her inventive, circus-themed staging of Pippin, directs this world premiere for a limited run.
Experience N/A in New York at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. N is the first female Speaker of the House; A is the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress. The two serve for the same political party but may not always agree on key issues. In this new play, how far will one woman go to fight for her ideology? More information about N/A - The Play
N/A explores different generations of womanhood, power, and politics in a sly yet explosive two-hander, deeply informed by the experiences of playwright Mario Correa, a former Congressional aide. Such a career pivot is not always seen in the theatre; often, writers go through various schools, programs, and residencies to “rise the ranks,” and a writer who comes from a different experience is a boon, refreshing who tells what stories and infusing the stage with unique perspectives.
This world premiere is in apt hands with Diane Paulus at the helm, as she is another female trailblazer who is celebrated for championing new works both regionally and in New York. Part character study and part sparring match, N/A will shed light on some of the most pressing issues of our time through the unique lens of two powerful women fighting for power and progress in Congress.
What to watch for
- Holland Taylor is perhaps most well-known for her work in TV and film, but she is no stranger to the stage: she’s a Tony Award nominee for her work in the solo show she co-created on Broadway, Ann.
- Simultaneously, Ana Villafañe is most known to theatre crowds as Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet!, but she too has screen experience, appearing on New Amsterdam and Younger. N/A marks her return to Broadway.
- N/A is taking place in the Lincoln Center performing arts complex. This year's other hits there included the Steve Carell-led Uncle Vanya and the Bartlett Sher-directed Corruption, and upcoming is Robert Downey Jr. in McNeal.
- N/A premieres in a key political year: the 2024 election looms, which encompasses both the presidential and congressional elections. The two women in the play are members of Congress, and the show’s themes will resonate ahead of Election Day.
