More information about The Big Gay Jamboree

Titanique is known for its brazen humor, spoof-tastic songs, and larger-than-life characters. If that show is any indication, The Big Gay Jamboree is sure to be a similarly raucous show. And with a title like that, how can it not be? Starring Marla Mindelle, who dubs herself the world’s second-favorite Celine Dion after her turn in Titanique, The Big Gay Jamboree is a new comedy trapped inside a musical. Plus, Vanity Fair calls Mindelle one of the “brightest stars of New York theatre.”

The musical introduces a familiar plot. We've all been there: One too many drinks, waking up unsure of where we are, but we can guarantee you've never experienced anything like this. Ever waken up in a musical? That’s where Stacey has found herself, and she’s determined to belt her way out. Obie Award winner Mindelle stars in the show.

Produced by LuckyChap Entertainment, Margot Robbie’s production company, The Big Gay Jamboree asks how hard must one really werk to get out of musical madness.

What to watch for

  • The Orpheum Theatre downtown has hosted many legendary shows, including the original Off-Broadway run of Little Shop of Horrors and the long-running Stomp.
  • Today, the phrase “weaponize your BFA” has meant using one’s theatre education to book gigs and make it in the entertainment field. Mindelle brings her own meaning to the term as her protagonist, Stacey, horrifyingly wakes up in an Off-Broadway musical, the last place she wants to be… but where she must also use her theatre knowledge to get out of this dark, dark land: a wholesome small town.
  • Mindelle made a name for herself in Titanique in which she played Celine Dion: People magazine said she gave a “pitch-perfect performance that has earned Mindelle rave reviews.”
  • Connor Gallagher directs and choreographs this show; previously, he choreographed other musical comedies, including Beetlejuice on Broadway and The Robber Bridegroom.
