Buckle up and come along for a ride wilder than any amusement park attraction. The new musical Dead Outlaw, from the celebrated creative team behind the multi-Tony-winning The Band's Visit, digs into the unbelievable true story of a man who had twice as many adventures in death as in life.
Dead Outlaw begins with the wild question: How did the preserved body of an Old West train robber from Oklahoma end up hanging in a Southern California amusement park ride in 1976? As we find out, we discover the long, strange odyssey of outlaw Elmer McCurdy's life, which spanned a continent and a century. Composers Erik Della Penna and David Yazbek, playwright Itamar Moses, and director David Cromer to create the first new musical at Audible Theater.
Don't miss your chance to catch this strictly limited world premiere. Just like McCurdy himself, some legends are dying to be told. Get tickets to Dead Outlaw off Broadway before it gallops out of town.

Born in 1880, Elmer McCurdy was an American outlaw killed in a shoot-out with police after robbing a train in 1911. Now infamously known as The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up, his mummified body was first displayed at an Oklahoma funeral home, and it then became a fixture on the traveling carnival and sideshow circuit from the 1920-60s.
After changing ownership several times, McCurdy’s remains eventually wound up at The Pike amusement zone in Long Beach, California, where they were discovered by TV crew members. Sounds bizarre? It is, and there’s so much more to the not-so-tall tale, all set to music by Grammy Award-winning composer Yazbek.
The Band's Visit, Yazbek's first collaboration with Moses and Cromer, won 10 Tony Awards in 2018, including Best Musical. Now, Dead Outlaw in New York premieres with Audible Theater, the theatrical arm of the podcast/audiobook giant.
