New York’s “hometown band,” the Orchestra of St. Luke’s performs Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 18, a work that features wonderful interplay between orchestra and soloist—in this case, world-renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. Also featured on the program is Schubert’s monumental Symphony No. 9. His final completed symphony—conveniently and reasonably known as his “Great” Symphony—Schubert never had the pleasure of properly hearing it performed in concert. Our privilege to do so remains one of his greatest parting gifts to the world.
