Here Lies Love is a groundbreaking musical about former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos' astonishing rise to power and subsequent fall at the hands of the Philippine People Power Revolution. From the minds of David Byrne (Academy Award®, Grammy Award®, and Tony Award® winner) and Fatboy Slim (Grammy Award® winner), Here Lies Love has been called "ingenious" by The New York Times and "an ecstatic and dynamic party” by Time Out New York. With choreography by Annie-B Parson (Olivier Award nominee) and directed by Alex Timbers (Tony Award® winner), the theater is transformed into a dance club where the audience is immersed in the story.

Fresh off the success of his Tony Award-winning theatrical concert American Utopia (and its encore Broadway run), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee David Byrne returns to Broadway alongside big-beat pioneer Fatboy Slim in his Broadway writing debut. Their pulsing disco tunes power the true story of Imelda Marcos, the former First Lady of the Philippines who lost her closest friends as she gained power — and soon lost that, too, amid the People Power Revolution. History has never been so dance-worthy, especially as it unfolds all around the audience.
Here Lies Love first appeared off Broadway in 2013, with a cast including Tony Award winner Ruthie Ann Miles as Imelda, Jose Llana as her husband Ferdinand, and Conrad Ricamora as opposition leader Ninoy Aquino. The limited-run production at The Public Theater won five Lucille Lortel Awards, three Drama Desk Awards, and an Obie Award, and the show subsequently returned for an encore run in 2014.
Byrne has been working on the musical since the early 2000s. He was first inspired by The Autocrat, a book by Polish author Ryszard Kapuściński about the fall of a separate Ethiopian regime. To him, powerful people's carefully curated personas felt similar to a theatrical performance.
He later read that Marcos was fond of disco (and was even part of the New York disco scene for a time that he was living there), and did further research on her life. Byrne then combined the two themes into one concept, which became Here Lies Love in New York.
Ten years after an Off-Broadway premiere run that The New York Times hailed as "insidiously infectious" and "ingeniously devised," join the crowd on the dance floor at this unique show revolutionizing what Broadway can be.
