Experience Tina Turner’s singular journey in the hit musical that’s already playing to critical raves and sold-out audiences in London.
She’s rollin’ on the river, all the way to Broadway. In what seems like the most obvious pairing, at long last the life of Tina Turner makes its way to the Main Stem — and with it comes that inimitable songbook. “Tina: The Turner Turner Musical” arrives on the Great White Way under the direction of Phyllida Lloyd, with a book by Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall. The music, however, is all Tina, baby — well Tina and Adrienne Warren. The Tony nominee originated the diva-tastic role in London and reprises it stateside at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
This is a jukebox musical as you probably have never seen one before. Spanning the high-highs and low-lows of a life lived in front of an audience, “Tina” will be as much a musical as a rock concert celebration of its source material. (“I’ve rarely heard an audience greet [a musical] with the mighty roar that looks likely to be a continuing feature of “Tina,” the New York Times said of the London run.) And with the performance, Warren, too, looks likely to transform herself from triple threat talent to star — and you can watch it happen right before your eyes.
