Each night, the Stephen Sondheim Theatre will transform into a winter wonderland now that “Slava’s Snowshow” blew back in to New York City. Created and staged by celebrated Russian clown Slava Polunin, the theatrical event returns to Broadway for the first time in over a decade. The eight-week limited engagement features a cast of 10 clown performers, who create elaborate, picturesque scenes and mime their way through the snowy world that comes to life within the theatre.
Since “Slava’s Snowshow” premiered in Moscow in 1993, the acclaimed theatrical work has received numerous awards, including the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. An ideal show for children — or the child within — the 90-minute Broadway blizzard promises “humorous antics” set inside a “dreamlike” world. Plan to wear your parka because the clowns’ shenanigans include massive snow webs, water guns, and endless amounts of confetti.
Recommended for 8+. Please be advised that children under the age of four will not be permitted into the theatre.

When he was a child, creator Slava Polunin wrote an essay at school that said one day he would be a clown.
The reason that Polunin’s clown character is non-verbal is because he says a non-verbal character “looks more mysterious.”
Many aspects of “Slava’s Snowshow” are created out of childhood memories, including Polunin’s image of snow.
The show was nominated for a 2009 Tony Award for Special Theatrical Event.
