About Teeth 'n' Smiles

Don’t miss Teeth ’n’ Smiles, David Hare’s gripping play with music about a rock band losing steam, now revived in the West End for its 50th anniversary, with Rebecca Lucy Taylor starring as Maggie Frisby. Book Teeth ’n’ Smiles tickets on TodayTix.

Teeth ’n’ Smiles is a musical play set during one explosion of a night at a Cambridge University ball in 1969. The play follows Maggie, as well as her band, The Skins, as their dreams of countercultural rebellion start slipping away, rotting from within. Maggie is broke and furious, and to top it all off, a terrible drunk, while those around her attempt to survive the ruins of a life that is on the brink of death. Packed with original song and lively energy, Teeth ’n’ Smiles blends backstage disaster, dry humour, and the collapse of idealism with excellence. Rebecca Lucy Taylor brings it all together with edge and incredible star power.

More information about Teeth 'n' Smiles

Teeth ’n’ Smiles in London was first performed at the Royal Court in 1975, and it’s returning 50 years later in this smashing West End production at the Duke of York’s Theatre. The cast is led by Rebecca Lucy Taylor, also known by her band stage name, Self Esteem, with Michael Fox and Phil Daniels joining her. Daniel Raggett directs this show masterfully. The creative team also includes music by Nick Bicât, lyrics by Tony Bicât, and additional music and lyrics by Taylor. It also includes set design by Chloe Lamford, costume design by Alex Mullins, lighting design by Matt Daw, and sound design by Ben and Max Ringham.

Teeth ’n’ Smiles has attracted attention not just because of its anniversary date, but because Taylor’s casting breathes new life into a play about the death of an entire world. Her stage presence remains magnetic, and the impact of the songs is not lost on audiences. This show offers a snapshot of a life that has gone by the wayside with accuracy and sensitivity; 1960s idealism that wastes away into something much darker. It makes this production appealing to all audiences, whether they are familiar with or not with the subject matter.
