Back to the Future The Musical brings the iconic 1980s film and pop culture phenomenon to the stage in a new, time-traveling musical. The Back to the Future musical tells the story of Marty McFly, an average American teenager in the 1980s, who accidentally finds himself transported back in time to 1955. When he stirs up drama between the younger versions of his parents, he needs the help of quirky scientist Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown to fix history and travel safely back to the ‘80s. The film debuted in 1985 and became an instant classic, igniting the start of a successful science fiction franchise with sequels Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III. The film made actors Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who played Marty McFly and Doc Brown, into household names.

Reuniting the creative masterminds behind the movie, the new musical is created by Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, with music from legendary songwriting team Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Loyal fans of the film will also hear some of their favorite songs from the movie mixed in with the musical’s new score. In addition to Back to the Future, members of the show’s creative team are well-known for their work on an impressive roster of award-winning films including Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Polar Express, Castaway, The Parent Trap, Avengers: Endgame, and other trailblazing cinematic works.

Whether you’re a fan of the original film or discovering the eccentric world of Back to the Future for the first time, the show is sure to become a favorite in its new home on the West End. The new musical premiered at the Manchester Opera House in early 2020, but its run was cut short due to the Covid-19 related theatre lockdowns. Now, Back to the Future in London is staging its return at the Adelphi Theatre.
