Soon off Broadway stars Oliver Richman (as Jonah), Ava Delaney (as Charlie), Mylinda Hull (as Adrienne), and Mike Millan (as Steven). The musical brings together two theatre performers who also create new works: Blaemire, who wrote the score and book, is known for his work in Broadway shows like Cry-Baby and Godspell, and Will Blum, who directs, has also been on Broadway in shows like School of Rock, Beetlejuice, Grease, and others.
Now, the two come together to create this new musical, premiering with Out of the Box Theatrics.

It's the end of the world, or is it?
Soon is an intriguing and thought-provoking play that keeps you curious as the story unfolds. It explores compelling ideas and leaves you with plenty to think about afterward. While some moments may feel a little slow, it’s an interesting theatrical experience that’s worth seeing if you enjoy plays that make you reflect.
74/100 Although 16 years in the making, SOON could still use some work. Tightening, cutting a few songs (like the out-of-left-field fish bar mitzah song), and making the story-line clearer. Still, I enjoyed the talented cast and band...and appreciate musicals that tackle a big issue while maintaining a sense of humor.

Today, many musicals are adaptations of books, movies, or a singer's life. Finding original musicals is harder, which is also what makes them stand out and so exciting. When he's not performing in musicals, Nick Blaemire has been creating original ones for years. Soon is his newest one, and it features a cast of four and has an intimate indie pop score that befits this chamber musical.
In Soon, which runs for six weeks only, twenty-something Charlie is waiting for the end of the world. Her anxiety is getting the better of her life, but Jonah wants her to start living it. Before her time runs out, Charlie must do the hardest thing she can think of: open the front door.
Sometimes, taking the first step is the hardest one. This new musical boldly explores themes of medical diagnosis and mental illness, taking a look at contemporary characters and issues to reflect the world around us.
