Following a highly acclaimed production in London’s West End, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON makes its North American premiere at The Public this fall. Olivier Award-winning writing team Jethro Compton and Darren Clark reimagine F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic story of an old man who is not at the end of his life, but at the beginning. Set in a Cornish fishing village on the coast of Great Britain, and brought to life by a company of 15 actor-musicians, this is the magical tale of a love that defies all odds.

The reimagining of this beautiful story was a musician’s dream. The ensemble is working HARD to delightfully engage the audience in the story as they exchange parts, props, costumes, and instruments. The leads’ connection to the story engaged the audience throughout. I would love to see this production again.
Don’t believe the hype and save your money! It’s Celtic shanty music that all sounds the same and becomes annoying after the first song. The accents make it impossible to understand what are they singing or saying half of the time. The plot is so thin and saccharine. And the whole thing is just so twee. Also, the whole show is relying on these annoying narrators. Just show us stop telling. I’ve seen 25+ shows this year and this is the worst one. I almost walked out.
