Endlessly entertaining, "Small" tells the story of Robert Montano--the show's creator and star--as it follows his improbable journey from teenaged jockey (after being introduced to the exciting world of horse racing by his mother, he can't wait to climb into the saddle himself) to, of all things, dancing alongside some of Broadway's biggest names in one hit musical after another. From the moment he meets his mom's favorite rider--a seasoned vet who would go on to become Robert's hero and mentor--to his self-destructive efforts to keep his weight down (another problem was his height; soon, he had simply grown too tall to be a jockey), to his departure for the New York stage, we see it all; and thanks to his extraordinary gift for mimicry (he plays everyone, including grizzled old racetrack pros, casting directors and choreographers, and even his mom) and balletic grace, "Small" is gorgeous, funny, frequently sad, and one of the most captivating solo shows you'll ever see. If it ever comes back, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket. Like the first-place finisher in a Triple Crown race, it's a winner.

In Small, Broadway performer Robert Montano takes audiences through various phases of his life: being bullied at school because of his short stature, his dreams of being a jockey, and his major Broadway bows. Being small can have big advantages, especially on the race track. It's where Montano wanted to be, and he enthusiastically and inventively takes audiences through that niche world in his impressive physical performance.
However, he landed on Broadway instead, dancing in shows such as On the Town, Cats, and Kiss of the Spider Woman opposite Chita Rivera. Along the way, Montano shares his wild, autobiographical story that touches on family, racism, determination, and the gift of finding your purpose.
