About Henry VI: A Trilogy in Two Parts

NAATCO returns to The Public with their production of Shakespeare's trilogy, HENRY VI: A TRILOGY IN TWO PARTS, adapted and directed by Stephen Brown-Fried. Condensed into two parts and performed in rep, experience this saga of a nation spinning wildly out of control. Part 1: Foreign Wars kicks off with the funeral of King Henry V, leaving his infant son on the throne and sending the country into decades of spiraling chaos both abroad and at home. Part 2: Civil Strife picks up nearly 30 years later, as nascent domestic feuds rapidly metastasize into the full-blown civil war known as the War of the Roses.

First I had to rebook both shows for the final day of performances bc my original Part 1 date was cancelled. Part 1, meh. Didn’t love it. Sound/acoustics/diction were terribly inconsistent. Then Part 2. It’s a long day. The show started more than 25 mins late. With not explanation. And a rogue light bar blinked almost the entire show. Same sound issues from Part 1. Overall a disappointment.

Driven by a plot full of court intrigue and bloody battles, the production nonetheless brings the individual characters to life.

It was a very powerful experience being abpe to hear Shakespeares words as intended at a play instead of reading.
