About The Saviors
See this gorgeous new play by Bubba Weiler. The Saviors plays at the Atlantic Theater and is directed by Obie Award winner Jack Serio — the new drama reunites Serio and Weiler who, last summer, premiered the New York Times Critic's Pick Well, I'll Let You Go.
In The Saviors off Broadway, a lost young man takes shelter in a church. This sets off a chain of events that forever change two of the church's altar boys, who desperately cling to one another as their changing faiths, lives, and bodies threaten to tear them apart. The Saviors in New York is a deeply human portrait of how relationships change with time and uncontrollable circumstances — and how faith can be both an anchor that sinks and saves. Don't miss this riveting new play, in Manhattan at Atlantic Stage 2.

More information about The Saviors
As demonstrated in the hit and extended play Well, I'll Let You Go, playwright Bubba Weiler has a keen ear for ordinary Americans whose lives revolve around small-town life, profound faith, and long-lasting relationships. In a Critic's Pick review, The New York Times said the play is “quietly absorbing — a deeply American play about loss, regret and what makes a meaningful life.”
Such themes are also on display in Weiler's newest play, The Saviors. Audiences can expect a naturalistic ear and three-dimensional characters grappling with life's biggest questions while depending on neighbors and loved ones to make sense of our shared mysteries.
Jack Serio, who has made a name for himself in directing small-scale and intimate productions, is tasked again with another such play, bringing his signature flair and wisdom to such humanistic works. The Saviors promises a moving story with memorable characters who are real as life itself.
What to watch for
- As an actor, Bubba Weiler played Scorpius Malfoy in the first American cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.
- The New York Sun called Weiler's last play "a celebration of love and decency."
- Jack Serio made his West End debut directing Samuel D. Hunter’s Clarkston.
- Serio won a Drama Desk Award for directing Danger and Opportunity.
