Kicking off the second year of the Dance Reflections Festival by Van Cleef & Arpels is Lyon Opera Ballet, one of the world’s foremost contemporary dance companies. This exhilarating double bill brings together two striking works from both sides of the millennium: Merce Cunningham's seminal masterpiece BIPED and the US premiere of Christos Papadopoulos's Mycelium. BIPED seamlessly blends Cunningham’s clean, exact, and mercilessly complex movement with live music and groundbreaking digital art. Algorithmic patterns intersect and recombine, layering live dancers with projected imagery in a groundbreaking blend of dance and technology, set to a mix of live and recorded music by Gavin Bryars. Christos Papadopoulos, first winner of the Rose International Dance Prize, draws on nature to create work that feels organic, transformative, and unmistakably new. Mycelium is a hypnotic display that reveals the power of the Company’s jaw-dropping precision. Inspired by underground networks found in the natural world, the fascinating choreography unfolds like a living system—rooted, connected, and constantly evolving—set to the atmospheric electronic music of Coti K.
