What It Feels Like
- Emotionally intense
- Heartbreakingly intimate
- Disorienting yet gripping
You’ll Love This If…
- You appreciate fearless, vulnerable acting
- You connect with raw portrayals of addiction and codependency
- You enjoy nonlinear storytelling that mirrors fractured memory
Good concept and interesting portrayal of alcoholism, but the execution can be better. The writing is broken up to reflect the sense of broken memories but it takes the audience too long to figure that out and it hurts the pacing.
The story is intimate and emotionally strong
It felt more like a scene prepared for a acting class then a fleshed out production

More information about Blackout Songs
In crafting Blackout Songs, coming to the MCC as a rental, playwright Joe White aimed to create a raw, honest, and unsparing examination of two people in love and in recovery.
“With Blackout Songs, I set out to write a memory play about two people who can’t trust their memories,” said White in a statement. “Who fell in love and forgot how. Who invented things to fill the gaps. Who lost track of the truth. I wanted this play to feel like someone pouring their heart out over someone and sort of reveling in the doomed romance of it all."
The show earned an Olivier Award nomination for its London premiere. Now, it comes to New York with a strong creative team also includes set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Avery Reed, lighting designer Stacey Derosier, sound designer and composer Brian Hickey, with movement consultant and intimacy coordinator Sarah Parker and props supervisor Matthew Frew.
