About Romy & Michele: The Musical

Get ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical tickets to see the fan favorite movie reimagined for the stage. Originally starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in the film, this new adaptation of the cult classic plays at Stage 42 starting this fall. For most of us, the idea of reliving high school is nothing short of a nightmare. That’s why if we ever do return, even for just one night, it has to be in style: and that's just what Romy and Michelle have planned.

Experience ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical in New York to see a new musical with an ’80s and ’90s pop-inspired score. ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical off Broadway promises gags, looks, and plenty of throwback style and references as two not-so-successful women look to relive their not-so glory days. The stage version is written by the film’s screenwriter Robin Schiff, with a thrilling score by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay (Orange is the New Black), and directed by Kristin Hanggi (Broadway’s Rock of Ages).

More information about Romy & Michele: The Musical

Pop culture’s most lovable and quotable best friends are back, and this time they’re bringing their misadventures to the stage in the new musical comedy ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical. When Romy and Michele are invited to their 10-year high school reunion, they hatch an outrageous scheme to re-invent themselves and impress their former classmates. What could go wrong?

ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical is the best thing to happen since the invention of Post-its. What happens in high school doesn’t define you — unless it’s where you find the Mary to your Rhoda.

“Romy and Michele have been icons of friendship, fashion, and individuality from the moment we first met them,” said producers Barry Kemp and Stephen Soucy in a statement. “Bringing their story to the New York Stage is the perfect home for their bold and quirky spirit to be reborn. We can’t wait for audiences to enjoy this hilarious and heart-filled new musical.”

What to watch for

  • Before becoming a musical, the film was actually based on another piece of theatre: the stage play Ladies Room, which featured Lisa Kudrow.
  • Stage icons like Alan Cumming co-starred in the hit film.
  • The musical adaptation debuted in Seattle in 2017 before coming to New York.
  • A film sequel is in talks with original stars returning to reprise their roles.
