About Rheology
Set an alert for when Rheology tickets go on sale to see this unique theatre experience performed by the show's playwright and his mother. The Bushwick Starr, HERE Arts Center, and Ma-Yi Theater Company production of Obie Award winner Shayok Misha Chowdhury’s Rheology comes to Playwrights Horizons, which recently staged the hit shows Practice and Nothing Can Take You From the Hand of God.
In Rheology off Broadway, Chowdhury and his mother, theoretical physicist Bulbul Chakraborty, co-star as the two stage the latter’s death nightly, in preparation for eventual, inevitable grief. Despite death as its framework, Rheology in New York is a “delight, with a lively structure that’s a mishmash of scientific lectures, traditionally staged scenes and meditations on how the two have grown closer by seeing each other passionately pursue their work," per The New York Times.
A singular theatrical event, Rheology plays this April and May for a limited run only.

It was moving and unlike anything I’ve seen before!
An interesting experiment in facing the dread of dead that has some genuinely funny moments but ultimately falls a little short because it uses unearned trauma to evoke emotion
Really touching experience of a mother and sons relationship framed against physical phenomena mom played herself she was amazing

More information about Rheology
In this unique piece of live theatre, written and directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury, his mother Bulbul is obsessed with the mystery of sand: how it flows like a liquid, but then jams into a solid. Meanwhile, the playwright Misha is obsessed with his own mom, but together they are running out of time. In this groundbreaking collaboration, an artist son and his scientist mother challenge each other to a high-stakes experiment.
As Exeunt wrote of this dynamic play, “a substantial portion of it would stand on its own as a captivating physics lecture… but the beating heart of Rheology is less its intellectual rigor than its tenderness — a tender love between mother and son; a tender pride and respect in each for the other’s passionate work; a tender joy in getting to work together — and the way it uses the language of both theater and science to express this love.”
